Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Not pretty, but....

Worst game of football I have seen in a long long time. Surrendering possession at every opportunity makes for a dull watch and when both teams start doing it, then double trouble.

And why have we resorted to hoofing the ball long all of a sudden?

Can't get worse than that though so onwards and upwards...

We were poor today for sure but not sure how much of that was down to tactics. Duncan was as innefective on the right as he was on the left. They were strong and never gave us a moment on the ball and we don't know what to do when we come up against teams like that.

Their keeper didn't have to deal with a single shot in the 2nd half.

The season is far from over yet though.

On a separate issue, their number 2 was terrific, can we buy him?

Nigel Gleghorn or was it Cleghorn?

Mark Ward!

I would guess about 70 but I'm sh*t at guessing things like that. I'm still on the train and there's 3 Alty fans in this carriage

Can't disagree with everyone nominating Stuart Coburn's performance against Nuneaton - terrific.

Also mentioned further up - Val Owen at Kettering but the game swung a bit earlier for me when Jamie Paterson went off injured for them....

Altrincham FC First Team / Train to Worcester
« on: January 07, 2013, 02:11:44 PM »
If anyone is thinking of getting the train down to Worcester from the North, then there may be savings to be made by getting yourself to the West Midlands region and then grabbing a West Midlands Day Ranger ticket.

For example, Manchester to Stoke and then Stoke to Worcester comes out at just over £30 rather than the advertised £54 for a walk-on off peak return. You have to come back same day mind...

Obviously, the supporters coach offers even better value for money so get that if you can...

Doesn't make for a pleasant watch, that's for sure. The game reminded me a bit of last season at Stalybridge. However, Halifax are a good side (they were excellent on the flanks) and but for those lapses and a couple of really good finishes, the final score might not have been quite so bad.

Its all a bit frustrating at the moment. I genuinely think that the style of fotball we play is good and would probably serve us well in the league above. However I am not sure that this style of football will ever get us out of the league we are in with the personnel at our disposal. However, plenty of time left to make the play-offs and I think when Carl Rogers is fit again, we will improve.

Would definitely like to see the goals against column not getting any larger though...

Allow me if you will to reminisce a Dale Johnson moment - that goal against York, must have been the last 10 minutes when he out-muscled their right back near the touchline, made his way towards goal and then hammered it in off the post. Loved it.

Is that the only time we've won at Bootham Crescent?

Surely not Simon Richman at the expense of Carl Rogers . He did play well on Saturday though. A team with both of them ( as we did against Burton in the 1st game) is the way forward for me.....

Went there just not wanting to be humiliated and we came away unlucky not have beaten a league team on their own patch. Well done Alty, looking forward to the replay.

Thought Carl Rodgers was brilliant today
