Really frustrating……the constant interruptions.  I suspect that they are running an automation programme of some sort and still have not sorted out how to program it during games.
It's the signal. The music is programmed to kick in when the signal drops. Professional broadcasters use ISDN lines or 4G/5G boxes that have multiple SIMs and hunt the best signal from every available network. Most non league grounds don't have ISDN lines and the equipment to ride multiple mobile networks is far from cheap. That means we have to rely on a single 4G/5G network or the club's own WiFi - and that, inevitably, means some dropouts at some grounds.

That may well be the case, but we have always been at the mercy of the home club’s Wi-Fi. Since Radio Robins has changed to the Radio Alty platform the quality of service/ reception has declined. Yesterday was particularly frustrating and probably the worst so far.

The original platform used may not have been perfect but in my view was more reliable than the current Radio Alty platform.

I'm loath to criticize as I know a lot of work goes into RR and the quality of the signal at the ground, both Wi-Fi or mobile, will always dictate the service uptime. However, using the previous MixLr service did seem more reliable - I'm not sure why that wasn't continued and Radio Alty just picked up and broadcast that. There was a cost to MixLR though. The branding of RR through Radio Alty has probably increased the audience a lot but it seems to be to the detriment of the service reliability. I hasten to add, the quality of the actual commentary and content has always been superb.

I certainly wouldn't describe Marcus as lazy or a bad player but we've had better strikers certainly. I would say he lacks a bit of bravery and his goal to chance ratio isn't great but I don't generally have a problem with his all round play. We've had much worse, Darren Royle anyone?  :o

In my time watching Alty we've had a number of great wingers but the 3 who stand out for me would be Barry Howard, Paul Showler and Ryan Colclough. I wonder how others would compare them - BH was a scorer of great and important goals as well as a creator for others while playing in a top side over several seasons. PS was the star of another top side, albeit only for a season and losing him was a huge blow at the time. RC has been excellent in a mid table side and could potentially hit greater heights with a prolific striker to convert the chances he creates. Its difficult to compare eras but I think Barry Howard would be my choice of the 3, he was unorthodox but entertaining and ultimately a key member of our most successful time. I can even overlook the bubble perm he sported for a lot of the time with us 😄

Honourable mentions for 2 of my own personal favourites of my early years, Ian Morris and John Vernon.

Paul

Sent off for Warrington today - apparently an away supporter from Guiseley urinated in Tony's water bottle and TT squirted the bottle in the face of the said "fan" when he found out.

A message from a York City supporting friend of mine...

Big match today! Good time to be playing my lot as we are on the crest of a slump. Big lumbering striker who cannot run or score, two wingers who also do not score, a weedy midfield and defenders who give most of the goals away on set pieces. But we do have a half decent goalie (on loan). Would have attended of a 3pm kick off but going to watch on BT. Hope you do not enjoy it!!! 😁😁

Most comments are fair but I don't think I would be overly critical of the players.  There is a lack of a system and any sort of leadership.  I would love PP to be more vocal but guess that just isn't his style

Definitely need a leader on the pitch - Ryan Colclough, great player he may be, is not a natural captain. Oh for a John King/Mick Carmody character in the middle of the park.

In my view our fullbacks are a big problem, they just don't drive forward or overlap - Colclough and later on Kaja were both repeatedly telling Jones & Barrows to do so. We need that for our system to work, think Joel Senior, Connor Hampson, Andy White and Sean Densmore - all exponents of it. Bewildered by the criticism of Baines, thought he looked solid enough - whether he is an improvement on Cooper is debateable though. Marriot did well for his first game back and broke up their play a few times - he'll be a big asset once he's up to speed. We never looked like scoring but Jennings will get better as he gets to know his new teammates, Newby looked lively.

Overall, last night we looked disjointed and toothless. I have faith in PP & NS turning it around though.

Would be nice to see the whole pitch from the Popular Side terraces at the next game, not be obscured by some metal fence construction that looks like it was someone's first go at making something with Meccano  :o

The post-match thoughts of Oldham Athletic's dejected manager:

Credit to PP - when we have a bad result/performance he has never been so dispirited and negative with his post match comments and always finds something to build on  - that ramble wouldn't motivate me in any way if I was an Oldham player.

Being old enough to remember the times when we were both a great cup AND league team, I can confirm that the lamentable record in the FA Trophy over the last 30 years is something that back then we'd never have believed could happen. Prior to 1977 our record in the FA Trophy was crap but the club got such a huge boost from that run to the semis in 1977. To then win it in 1978 made us a silverware winning team and that can become a habit. A trophy, any trophy (including the CSC) can change a team's mentality. An FA Trophy run is waaaaay overdue.

Not a lot can be done about the lag, that's broadcasting over the internet for you. It can vary between a few seconds and a few minutes. It does appear to lag a bit more on Radio Alty than it did over Mixlr though 🤔

Its not really "live" commentary? I'm getting it about 2 minutes behind? Or is it just me.
