Those who thought last night's pitch was substandard should watch "The Big Match Revisited" on ITV4 on Saturday mornings. The pitches the top clubs had to perform on in 1975 ranged from a fair approximation of Blackpool beach to the sort of soggy mudbath that cattle would be reluctant to enter ! The recent appalling weather has made pitch maintenance an utterly thankless task. Our ground staff deserve tremendous credit for getting last night's match played.

I've  had the same thoughts! Amazing how they played so well on those pitches, even though they  could be a great leveller!
