Alty & Weymouth Trivia Questions
« on: October 17, 2008, 05:19:12 PM »

Something to pass the time before 3.00pm tomorrow....

(1) Name the player who scored Altrincham's first ever goal against Weymouth;

(2) Which English comedian's father's career in football included spells as (i) a player for Altrincham and (ii) the manager at Weymouth?

(3) Which Alty player scored his first goal for the Robins against Weymouth at Moss Lane back in April 1983?

(4) Which fondly-remembered Alty full back scored the only goal of his career with the Robins against Weymouth in the 1980s?

(5) Name the goalkeeper who played in Alty's first ever Alliance Premier League match against Weymouth;

(6) Name SIX players who have played for both Alty and Weymouth.

Anyone who answers all those questions correctly will win a free landscape gardening makeover courtesy of Dino Maamria and a signed photograph of Phil Taylor...

Not sure but possibly Mickey Moore or Jeff Johnson?

Pas d'idee :o

Ronnie Ellis?

(4) Which fondly-remembered Alty full back scored the only goal of his career with the Robins against Weymouth in the 1980s?

Fairly sure that is Peter Densmore.

(5) Name the goalkeeper who played in Alty's first ever Alliance Premier League match against Weymouth;

Was it Mr. Darcy?

(6) Name SIX players who have played for both Alty and Weymouth.

Peter Conning,Lee Elam & four others ???

Is one of the answers something utterly ridiculous and spurious like Darren Campbell/Jason Beckford/Paul Jones?

Also, did Chris Senior have trials with Weymouth?

No, Ballers, I wouldn't do something like that to you.
One player is quite obscure....but valid.

Not sure whether Chris Senior has ever had trials with Weymouth.....but he's not one of the six players on my list.

The name of one of the players who has played for both clubs escapes me but I'm fairly sure it was a lad on loan to us from Bury about 6 or 7 years ago. Marc Whiteman?? He seemed to go on a tour of south coast clubs after having played for us iirc.

A bonus point awarded to viennaalty, as I had forgotten all about Marc Whiteman having played for Weymouth!

So, Peter Conning, Lee Elam and Matt Bailey identified to date.

Still three players to be named....

OK then, here's a supplementary question:

Name the renowned Altrincham supporter and current hotel guru based in Knighton who once scored a brilliant goal at Weymouth...

For a bonus point, describe the aforementioned goal....

The legendary Colin D'arcy was between the sticks for the 0-0 on the opening day of the opening APL season

The scorer of Alty's second goal against Weymouth was none other than JOE FLAHERTY!

Graham Carr's son is the comedian (dod Graham Carr ever play for Weymouth therefore being one of the six?)

Peter Densmore (someone has got that already!)

I have been to Weymouth three times to watch Alty (although not recently!!) and have never seen a goal - 76-77, 79-80 and 80-81.

The answers....

Something to pass the time before 3.00pm tomorrow....

(1) Name the player who scored Altrincham's first ever goal against Weymouth;

Mick Moore was indeed that man.

Monday, 21st March 1977
FA Trophy 4th Round Replay
Altrincham 2  Weymouth 1
Mick Moore (50 mins) and the legendary Joe Flaherty (82 mins).

(2) Which English comedian's father's career in football included spells as (i) a player for Altrincham and (ii) the manager at Weymouth?

Graham Carr, father of Channel 4 comedian Alan.
He managed 12 NPL appearances for Alty during the Laurie Brown days of 1970.

(3) Which Alty player scored his first goal for the Robins against Weymouth at Moss Lane back in April 1983?

Ronnie Ellis.

(4) Which fondly-remembered Alty full back scored the only goal of his career with the Robins against Weymouth in the 1980s?

Peter Densmore in the 2-2 draw at Weymouth on Saturday, 7th February, 1987.

(5) Name the goalkeeper who played in Alty's first ever Alliance Premier League match against Weymouth;

Colin Darcy, who, rather bizarrely, I once recall playing as a centre forward for Alty's reserve team!
He was succeeded by Alex Stepney on 8th September 1979.

(6) Name SIX players who have played for both Alty and Weymouth.

Lee Elam;
Matt Bailey;
Peter Conning;

plus....

Mick Doherty (ex-Runcorn & Yeovil): 9 appearances and 1 goal for Alty in the 1993/94 season;
Gary Simpson (ex-Stafford Rangers and Boston United): England Non League International midfielder who was at Alty circa 1989/90;

(and just how did everyone forget the following character?)

Colin Chesters (ex-Vics): at Alty 1984/85/86....and a member of the team that defeated Birmingham City.

Anyone who answers all those questions correctly will win a free landscape gardening makeover courtesy of Dino Maamria and a signed photograph of Phil Taylor...

Looks like it's a rollover on that coveted photograph of Phil Taylor then...!
