Title: New striker?
Post by: joe on September 10, 2010, 08:22:22 PM
I see from the main site we've put in seven days notice of approach for a striker with an Evostick Premier club. Anyone any ideas who it could be?

If Darren is correct, would be Tony Evans, used to be at Southport. Sure I've heard of him from somewhere else though, maybe had a trail or previously rumored to get him??

Could it be John McAliskey returning to us from Northwich...?

i think you can sign from leagues below maybe he is not on a contact hence the 7 days approach

Lee Steele?

you can sign free agents or non-contracted players outside of the window. Obviously, with the 7 days approach, the player concerned is not on a formal contract with the club. Therefore, he can leave (after 7 days) and be a free agent, and then join alty.

No it not that name Graham mentioned

If it's the Tony Evans who has turned out for several of the sides local to where I live, then he is absolutely huge! I've seen him play for Skem and Burscough and his record in the lower leagues is prolific to say the least. What about Scott Barlow of Trafford though? Could be him. Lee Steele would just be weird at Alty - he's Vics through and through. Shows there are some decent strikers playing at that level though.

As we have seen from McCarthy's total inability to finish players from the likes of Warrington Town are no use to us!

Yes, because one game is enough to make a judgement.

Evertone starts somewhere. Colin Little started at Wythenshawe didn't he? Good job he wasn't discounted by FL sides on the basis that he'd only played at a low level.

And even though his finishing was woeful against Kiddy, I think his all round play was up to Conference standard. GH and his assistants (Steele, Barrow and McKenna), always seem to find a decent player from the lower levels, from Hussin to Danlkyk to Williams. McCarthy might be this seasons find.

I wonder who it is???
Its quite exciting is'nt it. I hope its Wilde from chester,he scored 3 midweek, maybe he wants a chance at a higher level, wishful thinking i know...
Dont know much about Greaves at Bradford.Lee Steele has been a good player but please not him,he is Vics through & through, could be big John Mc coning back to terrify defences again and impress with his 110% work rate  ;)
Iv heard all sorts of names mentioned but i do hope its not Evans from Warrington,he wasnt good enough for unibond premier so never going to be good enough for BSP

Its Mike Norton.

For definite?

Just looked him up. Over 200 goals in five seasons for Curzon Ashton and 5 goals in 6 games for FC United this season.

Looks very promising.

Cult,

You are correct, it was Mike Norton, he played a couple of pre season friendlies 2 pre seasons ago having come from Curzon Ashton after scoring 49 goals in a season. For some reason Graham didn't rate him, he went back to Curzon scored another 30+ goals and then FCUM picked him up.

I'd be suprised if it was him, although he clearly has an eye for goal. Whoever it is, there is a lot of pressure on his shoulders from day 1. I would expect that if another comes in, then 1 of the existing strikeforce will go (I would suggest Holsgrove or Reeves because Twiss is on Contract and McCarthy still needs time...)

This sounds feasible to me. If Colin has played alongside him, and rates him, then we'd certainly take HIS word that the lad is worth a chance.

That may depend on which level we are talking about, conference or our current crop of players.

After watching him this weekend, I thought he struggled against Radcliffe and hardly looked FCUM standard- he was just in the right place at the right time- by that I mean one of his goals was hammered in from on the goal line from a shot that that was already trickling in. The lads who I went with who are regulars also don't think hes up to much either.

Well, that will be par for the course then. I really hope he can run a lot in view of our "LULU" system. >:( >:(

But on a serious note, hopefully it's not Mike Norton as it would be a huge loss for us but couldn't blame him if he did come to you's and would be a good addition to you's IMO
