Title: Bromley (A) Match Thread
Post by: MarpleAlty on December 20, 2023, 08:24:31 AM
Aside from a couple of moments of quality from CCC that won us the game single-handedly - and given the lessons the mamagement would have learned from Eastleigh / Rochdale - I wouldn't be surprised to see the back three return on Saturday.

When we went to Gateshead we had Lewis Banks at wing back, however (from memory) I don't think Justin Donawa was fully fit, whereas he should be raring to go now.

I still think the management plays Jake Cooper and James Jones the wrong way round - Jake can get bullied a bit in that central role, whereas James' weakness being taken on down the byeline is a penalty / dismissal waiting to happen at any moment. Let's play to theur strengths.

The game should also suit Regan Linney more than Alex Newby:

                    Ross
        Cooper  J.Jones (Roscoe?)  Baines
Donawa (Banks?                           E.Jones
           Marriott  Osborne
              Conn-Clarke
    Amaluzor                Linney

Donowa wasn't on the bench on Saturday - I hope he hasn't picked up an injury.

Does anyone know if the match will be shown in the CSH?

It's just dawned on me that James Jones wasn't available either.

Given his aerial presence perhaps a game for Sam Roscoe in the middle, and obviously Lewis Banks is capable at right wing back.

Personnel might force us into a back four, so it'll be interesting to see how the management team plays it.

Roscoe will still be banned won't he?

That's a good point... it was a straight red wasn't it. Not doing very well this morning!

If that is indeed the case, I guess we might have to stick with the back four - maybe Linney out on the wing and retaining Marcus Dackers up front?

For a team like Bromley I just feel we probably need a bit more aggression which I think Regan could give us more than Alex on the day.

3 games, but I do recall OK saying they'd look at an appeal. I was at the game, can't see an appeal getting far.

Nope, he's available - don't get me wrong, I like him but I thought it might be a better game for Regan Linney that's all.

Linney up front and Newby in his usual wing spot, with Dackers dropping to the bench for this one, is another option.

The good thing is that we actually do have options now!

Don’t need to give them too much respect, I would play a back 4.

Go toe to toe. Linney gives us more up top than the other strikers, he forces mistakes and is generally just more of a nuisance for defenders.

                       Ross

Banks     Cooper     Baines     E.Jones

             Marriott    Osborne

Amaluzor        CCC       Newby

                    Linney

Subs : Dackers, Kossy, Donawa, J.Jones & Wilson

Since there's no mention of it being shown in the CSH, does anyone know which pubs in the Alty area might have it on TNT?

King George by the ground has been specifically mentioned on the main Facebook fans group. Other pubs in the town centre that normally show football are Libero, Tavern on the Green & the Station. I’d say given Liverpool vs Arsenal also kicks off at 530 then the KG would be your safest bet.

I'll check with the King George, but I'm guessing I'll put my trust in RR.

When we got the free kick and a chance to equalize we don't have CCC on the pitch to take it because we've subbed him. I switched off in disgust. Anything happen?

No idea what the issue is, but he will reportedly be absent for four weeks.

What's the collective noun for a trio of injured Joneses...?

Great point that - we were under the cosh for large parts and it only looked like it was heading one way when we went down to ten before their lad made the horrific challenge.

I must admit I moaned when Conn-Clarke went off and I feared the worst and was cursing our luck with that late free kick. Up step Alex Newby!

Can't argue too much with Osborne's two yellows - very cynical pull backs unfortunately.

That Lewis Leigh is on a youth loan from Preston - he looked excellent.

Precious and got to add unlikely point against an ariel BOMBardment  ! Full marks for digging it out and fighting to the finish. Huge shout out to the Alty faithful who made the journey , shouted themselves hoarse and some of those outfits were top drawer too 👏

Ethan looked like he had a rib problem, hope he recovers ok.

Osbourne commits those silly fouls far too often .

Very happy with the result, let’s hope we can retain / or sign Alex Newby.

Good result against a decent team.

Keeping Alex would be a massive statement of intent. This must now be the club's priority. He maintains the balance up front.

Agreed either for the rest of the season or on a permanent.May need a midfielder and a left back on a temporary basis

Two smashing goals and a point that we deserved, if not only for the never say die attitude that the team are adopting this season and the quality of the equalizing strike.

The commentators had only just revealed that Alty have scored 14 'late' goals so far this season when Newby's finely executed free kick added to the tally.

The Alty fans nearly all in fancy dress were at full voice and could be heard throughout the game.

We are going to be in 6th place for Christmas and a promotion and trophy double is still on.

Ozzies two cards were needless and both may not have been given on any other day.

Watching on TNT and believe both CCC and Osbourne got booked for kicking the ball into the crowd after the ref had blown fir frre kicks against Alty.
Have seen other ‘pro’ players do the same and get away with it - clearly a ref who clamps down on it.
Have to say i wouldnt watch a North v South gane on TNT again……think they must have sponsorship rights with Bromley - youd have though Alty were bottom of the league the way they spoke down about us and how unbelieveably brilliant everything about Bromley was!!
Well done to those who travelled to watch live and good result

I always think the TV pundits tend to be a tad patronising about Alty.

They do like all things Southern

Erm, just watched the highlights.   Their long throw on their first goal looks like a foul throw to me.  No one has mentioned it at all so I guess I’m wrong??!!  Any refs out there?

Good spot, I'm pretty sure the player's momentum can't bring them in to the field of play.

Not that I think we deserved any more yesterday. We were actually pretty bad in parts yesterday and in previous years that would have been another loss we put down as the reason we're not making a playoffs push. Yesterday we did what we've done a lot this year stolen points we don't deserve... I love it.

Both feet must be either behind or on the line but not beyond it.It's frequently ignored.

Also wanted to mention the pitch. Some of the weirdest bounces in that game and it can only be because of the way the ball interacts with all those rubber bits. I still can't decide though if I dislike this or a winter quagmire to play on.

One of the worse 3g pitches ive seen.

TNT commentary is poor, but i watched Odhams game before ours. The commentators sounded like a lad and grandad chatting any old tripe
