We must push on and not find ourselves dragged into relegation again this year, please God lets push on and hit the middle of the table at least,no time for sentiment, we must have the personel that are best suited to the task, and if that means a few players going then so be it,sad but we must not waste this opportunity to really establish oursleves.
Is it still 4 down this coming season or have they changed it to three??

it means bringing in 3 players minimum who are better than what we have now in my opinion

Still 4 down I believe.
It's now an absolute must that Gary Scott get fit and joins the sqaud.
Hopefully Chalmers and Senior will now stay.
If Tinson's comes then just a bona fida left back and an out and out winger are required.

When GH gets back from hooliday he certainly has alot of work to do or we will be in a similar position at the end of the season.
But I am sure he and dalton will be up for it?

Spot on, Hughesy.
Some players have served us well over the last few years but they are simply not up to Conference National standard and we have to leave sentiment behind if we truly want to establish ourselves at this level.
Too many people didn't regard relegation to the Conference North as being detrimental to the renaissance of our club.
We have a second chance....and must not squander it.

Don't Peake me for this, but the league table showed that our squad was not quite good enough last season. As, at the moment, we have more or less the same squad, there MUST be changes.
I have nothing but the greatest respect & admiration for the players who promised themselves to Alty next season when it looked like we would be in BSN, but we need a few players that will make a few of them nothing more than squad players.

Too right, i think that defence has been a serious worry since we came back to into conference/BSP. The guys have given an awful lot, but we should be looking for something even better. At the mo, we need a RB, LB, and CB (if tinson doesnt come). Could also do with a creative spark in midfeild aka pottsy (or someone with his skills). Still weve got a lot of friendlies to put any trialists, reserve guys through.

I think we have to try and strengthen in teh sense that virtually no money has been spent on the squad during our debt years. It may come about that we will have to offer more money than we would ideally like to players or in fact lure them with the security of a contract.
Yes, I hear the words Bowler and Thompson too. The trick is to get the right players. In some ways getting loyal lads of good character as GH has proved himself adept at is actually easier than getting the 'next level' players in. What I would say is that doing a part&full time mix thing (like Stafford and Salisbury) is dodgy ground on average gates of less than 1400.
I just hope Pacey puts away his chequebo... :-X sorry cash away long enough for us to attract conference standard semi pros.
-
How do Stafford and Salisbury do the part full time thing? Are they funded by individuals, or are they just able to afford to pay a handful of full time players? I suppose it could lead us into a minefield if we start doing this, but at the same time, it might help us compete a little more favourably. I personally have no strong opinion either way, just wondering if we could do it if we wanted to, without getting into financial bother.
-
How does it work on a practical level if you only have a couple of full time players? You obviously can't conduct a training session with only 2 members of the squad, so is it left to the individuals to get fit and follow strict training routines? It all seems a bit disjointed to me.
-
wasn't Keith Russel our only full time player once upon a time?
-
I have a feeling John Rogers was "full time" back in the late 70's? Not sure if that was a euphemism if a player didn't have another career or not or indeed as someone said how the training would work?
Besides, I do recall seeing JR enjoy a pre match sherbet in Bangor City's club one time, so he must've been fit!!
Top player he was though and a great partner with Jeff Johnson and Barry Howard.
-
I believe JR was a 'self-employed' electrician during his glory years with us (whatever that means) and is certainly working in that capacity now, I've heard.

Spending within our means is a must but we need to stretch our means as far as they will go! With a new director on board of that quality i think we stand a good chance of having a decent playing budget next season.
Chalmers and Senior are a must for the squad but we need to look farther afield to get some real quality in there. I think we need Tinson plus 3 others. left back, right back and couple of midfielders.
Hughesy's bang on, sentiment must be forgotton, aspinall and G scott wont be up to the conf this season, we already know this, have to replace them with quality!
-
I see it as another season to piss off the big boys and to see Alty on tele.

Thats a nice catchy email address you have there Cestrian (see bottom right of profile)
