Last week's answer:

How can you take one away from twenty nine and be left with thirty?

Answer: Use roman numerals. XXIX take out (i.e. take away) the I leaves XXX.

New brainteaser:

A baker had a number of loaves of bread to slice up. He sliced each loaf into 11 pieces.
He sliced at the rate of 45 strokes per minute. How many loaves would he slice in 22 minutes?

90. Assuming that 1 stroke cut the bread into 1 piece.

45 strokes x 22 minutes = 990. 990/11 = 90

I would have thought the answer is 99 because it only takes 10 strokes of the knife to make 11 slices.

Therefore, he does 4.5 loaves every minute and 22 x 4.5 = 99

Quite agree - must be right.

I concur.

However, as the baker slit his finger without making any slicing actions. the answer could be zero, with a long wait at the A+E.
