Altrincham FC First Team / Cambridgeshire Police estimate 8000
« on: April 21, 2009, 09:24:14 AM »
Have spoken to a pal who works for Cambridgeshire Police who are estimating a crowd of around 8000 for Alty's visit. This has also been confirmed when I went to book my coach travel yesterday at the club. If Burton loose and they beat us with a hat full of goals then they go up so a big crowd is on the cards. This seems a massive estimate and I personally think a crowd of around 4000 is more realistic. If the crowd was 8000 would this be Alty's biggest league crowd of all time ?

Always a laugh, a smile and an Alty story - very sad to hear. RIP James.

A great day out but I would say York away was the best with a last gasp goal to make it 2-1. Classic game as well.

Great achievement and a very happy household here. Our trips to Mansfield and Cambridge will now be a pleasure without the usual last day nerves.

Under the title 'Best away day this season' Darren says that it was a great day which is very true. Great result and friendly people in bar prior to kick off. However myself and four kids were followed by at least ten lads wanting trouble from the exit to our car. Luckily the old bill noticed this and followed us all to car park. We got away quickly but this was the most nervous I have been at any away ground this season and I have been to about 8.

Got back from France at 2pm, ran to the game while the missus loaded the washing machine and what a welcome home. Thought I had wasted my energy for the first 25 mins but what a great result. Yes their Directors were a disgrace but lets celebrate the point and look forward to Wrexham.

Me and the statutory 4 kids in tow.

Graham Heathcote has been nominated as one of the most honourable men in football on 5 live ( 0720 Hours Thurs ). This was because  he  has undertaken  just about every job at the club during his career. Did you phone 5 live with this nomination ? Good nomination if that was you but quite an interesting point for debate.

Altrincham FC First Team / Weymouth takeover confirmed
« on: March 17, 2009, 01:43:03 PM »
From BBC South today

Takeover confirmed
After a tense day,in which a few last minute hitches arose, I can tell you the following:
Gary Calder and Mark Golsby have resigned from the board, and relinquished their interest in Make it so Ltd. Cary Calder has also resigned as CEO

Shaun Hennessy and I have been appointed to the board.

We will be holding a press only Press conference at 2.30 PM on Wednesday at the Stadium, at which the full new board will be revealed.

There will then be a fans forum, again at the Wessex, at 7pm that night.

WE would have liked to do this sooner, but for organisational reasons this is impossible.

There are now two big priorities.

1. Come tomorrow and bring a friend, to the match
2. Buy as many shares as you can

WE are confident the club will survive, but money is going to be very tight for some time. Everyone needs to pull in the same direction.

Looks like we played them at the right time!

Altrincham FC First Team / Horrible Pitch ?
« on: March 11, 2009, 01:55:32 PM »
This from Torquay United as reported on the Alty web site.

United supporter Steve Breed travels to every United match and he gave his thoughts straight after the final whistle: 'It was a horrible pitch and it wasn't a great game but then Wayne goes and smashes one in at the death and that is all that we will remember'". His opinion about the pitch is not matched by Pitchcare magazine, the leading publication in the sports pitch field, which has a four-page feature this month on the superb job done by Alty groundsman Neil Brown at Moss Lane.

I rate our pitch better than many premier league playing surfaces so which ground this bloke ended up at, god only knows.

Altrincham FC First Team / Cash strapped Setanta
« on: March 04, 2009, 05:39:52 PM »
Very sobering article in the Daily Telegraph sports section about the plight of Setanta ( Follow link below)

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/4934482/Cash-strapped-Setanta-ready-to-hand-back-TV-contracts.html

It basically goes along the lines that they are fast running out of money and if they can't re-negotiate the current contracts then they will probably go the way of ITV digital.

I know we don't get many televised games but getting non league football on the box goes down very well in this house.

Surely we are safe already as Lewes want to go down and severe problems at Vics, Weymouth, Oxford, FGR and Salisbury to name but a few. Half the division is insolvent so we shouldn't be too stressed.

Great words and wonderful sentiments from the Weymouth fan. Anyway f**k   'em.
Like many of you I travelled there at the end of last season;  My kids were in tears as Alty were condemed to the drop by a bunch of cheats. They had players they couldn't afford and now they have been found out.

Great article in today's Daily telegraph Sports section (p.13) about Weymouth.
