Title: Solihull Match Thread
Post by: robininstockport on November 23, 2023, 08:20:48 AM
No idea what changes will be made or what system we'll play.

Think Donawa should start as we look a lot more threatening when he does.

Sithole surly will be benched but after that I've no idea

Alty 2-1 Solihull (Con-Clarke, Osbourne)

Linney in from the start - let's get him sharp ASAP - can always withdraw him on the hour, let's start doing things the other way round now.

We played Josh Lundstram at right back to great effect against Solihull last season - let's start on the front foot against a Solihull side that have suffered back-to-back defeats like us.

Things definitely need freshening up, so hopefully the management see Justin Donawa as ready to go straight in - he's another one that can always be withdrawn after an hour if needed.

Got a sneaky feeling James Jones and Roscoe will be in. Not sure how I feel about that.
Probably back three with Cooper missing out. Not sure how I feel about that either.
Kosylo and Donowa possibly?
Linney definitely.

PS. The above is what I think might happen rather than my personal preferences.
As long as we win, I don't care

It will be a draw and probably my fault.  Sad to say I've seen one win (Southend), three draws and two losses this season.

                       Ross

Donawa  J.Jones  Baines E.Jones

            Osbourne  Marriott

Newby           CCC       Amaluzor

                      Linney

Good tempo from the off. Fullbacks getting forward.

Amaluzor on the left.

No Baines at all and Cooper on the bench,
A bit worrying

Didn’t make it today as I have a stinking cold.

I had Radio Alty on which is a quite frustrating way to listen to the games.

It needs sorting out as it is a poor version of what we used to have.

Nothing to worry about at all!

Brilliant performance from 1-11, the new lad Dackers was brilliant for the first half hour (faded a little afterwards), Justin Amaluzor was unplayable, wonderful finish from Alex Newby and all the forwards (Regan especially) getting on the scoresheet. What's not to love?

A special mention to Isaac Marriott who was at his imperious best this afternoon, and what a worldie of a ball from Elliott Osborne for Justin's second.

What a way to bounce back after the last couple of games.

Great performance today and Solihull are no mugs. It looked like we'd been told to shoot at every opportunity. Dackers made a good debut, Justin looked a different player to the one we saw on Tuesday. Lots of standout performances around the team but I particularly thought Eddy Jones was immense. Their number 2 Clarke had a game to forget, made to look silly by Justin, Regan and CCC more than once.

If previous form this season is to be repeated that is the first of five league wins on the bounce.

I am still holding the optimism that I have carried since the early days of this season and as each piece of Parky's jigsaw slots into place I am getting more and more excited.  I have already been checking out prices of hotels within a reasonable distance of Wembley for the Play-off and Trophy finals.

We will appear in at least one Wembley final in 2024.  I feel sure of it. Last year was the equivalent of our 1976/77 team that came so close to reaching the Trophy final and so that makes this one the 1977/78 doppleganger.  I have to admit that we are unlikely to win the league title but we have shown ourselves to be masters of winning play-offs and usually by the hardest way.  A promotion to EFL2 and FA Trophy double is entirely within reach of this squad.

We might be needing a shop in the Stamford Quarter to sell all the Wembley souvenirs.

That was a top performance from all 11.
Great tempo from the off.
Well done boys.

A weird game. It seemed like the very presence of Dackers was enough to distract the Moors, allowing the freedom of Altrincham to all our other forwards.

All the usual fabulous performances (which we have come to expect) but a huge shout out to the much maligned James Jones who superbly marshalled their number 9 throughout.

We were good today and more importantly...we are back.

Even though I was at the game, I can't wait for the Alty TV footage so that I can appreciate fully the sheer quality of our goals this afternoon.

Very entertaining stuff, some of the goals were top class. Big contrast from the previous 2 games, as the forwards had much more room and were quicker with the shots and much more direct. It's clear the tactics were to get the shots off when possible and it made a big difference. Good debut from Dackers who took his goal well and linked up well with the rest of the team. All the forwards were very good though and some great passes from Osbourne again.

The highlights should prove popular. The first goal is already up, a very cool and competent finish. I wonder when the full highlights will appear?

We made a bank rolled team look very ordinary. Some fantastic attacking play with Dackers making an excellent debut. Finishing was much more clinical.

Disappointed no clean sheet.

A brilliant win and to put 6 past a team in the top 6 was tremendous. That said, we're probably a bankrolled team these days too...

Good point Bob. Whenever [insert struggling L2 outfit here] sack their boss, someone on Twitter always pipes up ‘what about Parkinson (not the Wrexham one lol) doing it at Alty on a shoestring’. Which is clearly not the case anymore when you look at our signings & the clubs they are coming from. Not to decry what an excellent job Parky has done, but the reality is he does have a few quid to play with these days, which he has fully earned. But this poor little Alty myth is just that these days-good.

Also I do think there is a clear difference between clubs like say us & Woking who are traditionally at this level & have decent Fanbases & yesterdays opponents (plus Fylde & Boreham Wood for two more). These kind of sides have come from nowhere almost entirely due to large cash injections & there is a large degree of plastic here today, gone tomorrow about all 3 clubs. None of them have properly earned any of their relative success.

Was a big 8 hour+ edit with 3 cameras and nearly 17 minutes in length. Currently processing so should be ready early evening!! ;)

Your efforts are much appreciated. I enjoyed reliving Saturday last night, and have shared the footage with two friends who live far away and support Premier League clubs.

After hearing Parky's post match interview, it appears he's worked with the forwards about that.

It would be interesting to know where our budget is relative to the rest of the clubs in the National League. Are we in the top 10? Top 12 maybe? We used to consistently be in the bottom 4 for budget which I’d guess is not the case anymore.

Sure Rob Esteva did a pre season interview maybe through the club or the KOGR podcast where he said we were now about mid table in the budget league which sounds about right to me. You’d expect the bankrolled sides plus the recent EFL clubs to have more ££ than us still.

That's probably correct. For instance, I would have thought a factor in Lundstram moving to Oldham would have been, in his eyes, playing at a bigger club for much more money.
Not having a go at the lad, by the way, I don't really blame him. You only have one career.

I thought it was quite telling that we snatched the two Justins from Aldershot and Solihull when they'd been offered deals, so maybe there's two we've moved past.

Probably around Daggers, Eastleigh, Woking sort of territory.

Take mucky bedding every day if we score six. Think the clean sheet business only applies if we don't score or only net once.
