Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Weymouth Match Thread

Definitely a good night for us, 8 points clear of the relegation zone & all of Weymouth’s games in hand have now gone (and our GD over them is 9 goals better) so we are effectively 3 wins clear of a side who have won 5 games all season. Obviously though looking at our remaining home games (5 of the 8 are against sides in 13th place or lower) especially our aim has to be to finish top of the mini league up to 14th where Eastleigh currently are & ultimately improve on last seasons 17th place.

It's actually 6 of 9 home games left against bottom half sides - the rearranged Weymouth match yet to be slotted in to the fixture list. Mind you, our recent home form doesn't inspire much confidence.

Weymouth I believe are hybrid this season - some daytime training but not FT.

I'd like to see us play with Moult, Marriott and Osborne in midfield. I think the balance with the three of them could work but more than anything we have to become harder to beat and I'm not sure we have a midfield two that's strong enough on their own to protect the back four at the moment. It would mean having to sacrifice Hancock but I don't think he's had much impact for a while.

It could also just be that his one month loan period has come to an end (he went to Curzon just before Xmas) and we've decided it's served its purpose.

If the “change” involves getting rid of the management team I’d be strongly against that.   Yes, we are now in a relegation battle and if we were to go down I think the least we could do is give Parky and Neil , who got us here (ahead of schedule remember) a chance to get us out of it.   This is a brutal, unforgiving league, especially for teams with our resources.    All the loan deals, chopping and changing of lineups necessitated by our situation makes it very hard to manage.   Let’s hope we can somehow extricate ourselves from this.   Cut out the defensive silliness and for Christ’s sake, can we put our penalties away?!!😕

We weren't awarded a penalty today.

At what point does this nonsense become untenable, do people think?

Pretty soon. The KL and Weymouth games in Feb are clearly going to be crucial now to keep us away from the relegation places and we can't afford to go into those games in this kind of form.

Clearly we're not likely to get anything at Solihull. So I'd say if we don't beat Woking on Feb 5th, that's when we should look to make a change to give us some sort of lift going into those two huge matches.

Not convinced at all that Pringle is a good fit at No. 10. He played there against Southend and was subbed at half time. You need to be able to play on the half-turn at No. 10 but Pringle does all his best work coming on to the ball from deeper.

This wasn't just a defeat like Boston (A), this is 2 hammerings in a local Derby.

The silence tells me everything I need to know.

But whose silence is it exactly? If Phil did an interview immediately after the game (as he generally does) and it just hasn't appeared yet, I don't see how you could lay that at his door.

I had a chat with the NLP guy after the match and he told me that Hulme was his MOM and that was without knowing any of the backstory about it being his first game on his return to the club. Shows what a good second debut it was.

Jordan Thomas for Barnet is an interesting selection given he was subbed at half time - he was very good in the first half though to be fair.

Senior would be a huge Loss.

Would we lose so many players being FT? Which we would be had we not given out 2 year contracts like sweets after the playoffs.

I would think we'll lose more players to teams above us if and when we go FT because the part time status of our current players must be a barrier to some potential moves, either for the players themselves who may have good jobs or for the interested clubs who may wonder if they can cut it in FT football. Indeed it will be a part of the business model to develop players and sell them on for good fees.

'The capacity will be a reduction from the previously defined maximum capacity of 7,873 as all parties have agreed that this was produced based on inaccurate / out-of-date assumptions.'

While I don't expect to find out how the original figure was signed off, I do hope that the Club has received an explanation that is rather more detailed than what has been published.  It looks very much as though whoever came from TBC to do the original assessment, was not doing their job correctly; it's fair to assume that had they done so, we could have avoided the debacle of the last couple of games and the money lost that it has necessitated.

Based on one of councillor Western's email, it seems that that 7k plus capacity figure was basically one that the club came up with and the council simply nodded through. It wasn't as a result of an inspection I don't think. I suspect the reason we came up with such a high figure was mainly because it was at the time when grounds were being allowed 25% or whatever of their capacity under covid rules and so the higher our (notional) capacity, the more fans we could get in.

Play them at midnight on Christmas Eve for me. Turn up, knock them out of the competition and then have the discussion about when kick off should have been.

P.S could the club put on discounted coach travel for fans that don’t drive and would miss the last train home?

That's exactly what they're looking to do. A good move.

Notts County have a televised match on the Tuesday evening following so they won't have wanted to play on the Sunday.

Not sure why the get to dictate really, if Sunday works for us because they can't do 3pm, then we should crack on.

I don't really know how these things work but the truth is that we can do Saturday evening in terms of our playing schedule whereas they can't really do Sunday.

I do think it would have helped if we'd put something in our announcement of the new kick-off time to the effect of 'we know this is going to be tricky for our fans but we had no choice and here's why'.

Even a 7pm kick-off might not do it because Trophy matches at this stage go straight to pens if they're all square at full time. So with the last train to Manchester at 21.16, that might not work.
