I was listening to Radio 5 at about 1230 today and they had a little session on non-league clubs on how the gap is closing between us and division 2 and why.
On came this woman called Carol who presents the weekly non-league radio show (what!where?) and everyone's favourite Colin Lee representing Torquay.
They both said the success of the NL clubs is down to the financial acumen of the people runing them combined with the ability to have players on part-time contracts.
Aren't most BSP teams full time? And most are rather pushing it when it comes to finances?
Now two interesting facts came out
of it - they were quoted as saying that some part-time players earn £7-800 per week and that Torquay went part time 18 months ago.
They also really went to town on the impact Setanta has made in recruiting players and how playing in front of cameras sometimes twice a week has helped them.
Clearly the point of view of the representatives was only one small part and the uninitiated listener would think all is rosy in the BSP/N/S and there's no problems.
