From the official site:

"The Board of Altrincham Football Club are very sad to announce that club director David Burns passed away yesterday afternoon, having fought exceptionally hard through a long illness. David joined the Altrincham Board in May 2007 and made a major contribution to the Football Club through his financial expertise and exceptionally sound business acumen.
David had previously been the Chief Executive of The Football League and until recently was Chief Executive of the indoor ski centre, Chill Factor-e, next to The Trafford Centre.

David leaves behind a wife, Jane and two children.

The thoughts of everyone at Altrincham F.C. are with Jane and her family at this sad time.

Funeral arrangements will be announced next week. "

This is very sad news, sincerest condolences to all his family.

Gosh, shocking news. I knew he had been ill and hadn't seen him for a while but even so.

A very nice bloke with a deserved good reputation in football. I enjoyed having chats with him in the bar about some of the antics of football league clubs in his time as the Leagues chief executive.

He will be sadly missed and I'm sure all of us offer our sincere condolences and best wishes to his family.

Just out of interest, at the Vics game on New Years Day, the club were going to read out the list of supporters/ people with Alty FC connections who had sadly passed away in 2008. Will this still be taking place at the first home game of the year?
