or southampton circa 1995

Talk me through that one...... I know I'm biased living the in place 'down the road' but if I remember that team it consisted of his Mattness (ok... worth paying to see him) and .... no-one else I'd pay a penny to watch.

Were you thing of Francis Benali, Jason Dodd, Ian Dowie, Jeff Kenna, Jim Magilton, Neil Shipperley, Brice Grobelaar (in his "bung" period- allegedly) ????

I don't remember that but I remember a game in the 70s (might have been Hartlepool in the cup but I suspect it was South Shields in the NPL) when a load of Newcastle fans came and caused some bother (or 'bovver' as we so quaintly called it at the time) . I think there were enough of them to stand wherever they wanted.

While we're at it can we put another bid in for red shorts for the home kit? I know it's been done before but a great idea's a great idea forever!

So, assuming our survival in the BSP is confirmed, it looks like good news for us southern exiles but bad news for the majority of travelling Alty fans?

It now looks like relegated teams will be Halifax, Farsley, Stafford and Droylesden. Combined distance from Alty = approx 170 miles
The promoted teams will be Kettering, Barrow, Lewes and Eastbourne. Combined distance from Alty = approx 750 miles

And just so I don't get accused of wishing Halifax down before it's confirmed ... it would be even worse for them were they to survive.

You should not have even been in the Conference this year mate. Do you not feel a bit ashamed that despite getting lower points tallies than other clubs you still end up playing in the same league. Relegation is there to weed out rubbish clubs from the league!

Why should anyone associated with Alty feel ashamed? What have we done wrong and, more to the point, how would anything we did change the situation for Halifax (or the clubs relegated in previous years)? Even if the Alty demanded to be relegated in accordance with our league position and results that would save Farsley not Halifax.

What do you expect to achieve by having a go at us?
Aren't you ashamed that the people running your club took products and services from local businesses (we'll let you off the tax man) and offered to pay them 2.5% of what they owed?

I'm not sure tonight is the right time to reply but here goes....

The manager of any part-time team is going to struggle in the BSP. You can debate the style of play but, on the basis of today's game you can't argue about the commitment of the players and some of that must come from the manager and his staff.

The question is would anyone else have done better with the same resources? Is there a better candidate who is willing to take the job on.
I think you can judge the quality of the man by the fact that he's offered his resignation in the past - presumably because he thought it might benefit the club. Try to think who many other managers have done or would do that. Most wait to be pushed out or quit to go somewhere else.

I'd prefer to see how we get on next season (hopefully) competing with teams on a more equal basis.

If only we could keep Ryan Shotton. He was pure class today (as he has been all season). For a loanee to give so much has been of great credit to him.

If anyone deserves success in his career it is he.

Hear, Hear. Quality player and he looked so gutted at the end.

Good luck in your career Ryan.

Just got back.
Absolutely gutted. There were so many chances that just didn't quite fall our way.

Both of their goals seemed to have an element of luck about them. The first pinballed about the box and I though Scotty was a bit unlucky to be credited with an o.g. Not sure what else he could have done.  The other one looked like it went through a crowd and got a deflection.

I thought everyone gave it their all today and we were unlucky.

The bottom line is though that the club will carry on. I'd rather have a secure club with a future in the BSN than be worrying if will even exist next year like Halifax or be embarrassed by what goes on at the club like a mate who's a Crawley fan.

It's heartbreaking to think that one goal today which we came so close to scoring would have kept us up but we will have other days.

Well done to everyone who went today. Great support.

BTW, I thought Tinson was immense at the back. Will he stay/play next year?

Good Luck from Pompey too.
I was expecting to go tomorrow but can't now due to a close family bereavement.

All the best boys. I'll be thinking of you.

Hardly an embarrasement, they are in the league because they won the Nationwide North, so got promoted. How would we like it if we were denied promotion because we are part time ? Well you can't turn round to Droylsden and say your average attendance is 400, thats not good so your are not allowed to be promoted.

My thoughts entirely.  The support the fans give is more important than the numbers. A crowd of 250 fervently behind the team is worth more than 500 or 1000 who give little support or are negative.

Only my second game this season and I wasn't expecting too much given the relative positions and form going into the game but I thought Alty were excellent and probably deserved a point.
It was a good game despite the difficult conditions at times. I was glad to see Alty try to pass the ball around and not just hump it and I don't think Aldershot were ever comfortable.

I have to say though that I though we had chances to clear before both goals.
On the free kick... it was well struck but I was right behind it and I'm sure it took a slight touch off one of our players. Not sure if Stuart could have got to it anyway.

Well done to all those who traveled down from Alty. Did well to make themselves heard from time to time over the noisy home supporter (with their feckin' drums).

As others have said it may be no points but we didn't expect any and the performance should be encouraging to the team and the supporters.

Come on Alty!

I'll pledge a tenner. Just let me know how best to get it too you.
Hope to be at the Aldershot game so could get to see the grand unfurling.

Forget the away kit.......    We should revert to Red shorts for the home kit......

This was a brilliant result and, even better, it sounds like it was a great performance.
Well done to all those who were there to cheer the lads on.

And I don't think we could have wished for better results in the other games. It now looks like 4 from 6 and Alty are the team picking up points. Three more on Tuesday would be nice but even a draw would be ok I think. I can't see Farsley winning both their games in hand on present form.

Come on Alty!
