Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Salisbury next week
« on: October 02, 2008, 09:16:45 PM »
I don't wish to teach people to suck eggs here but if anyone hasn't been to Salisbury before the ground is WAAAY out of town. Needs a cab /lift or infrequent bus....not from outside, a walk up to the main road. That train home could be tight. Just for info, don't wish to deter anyone.
Terrible waste of a Saturday drinking fixture.

Oh, we went last year SW, well aware just how bloody far the ground is from town/the station. I do like a nice local Tuesday night fixture.

I'm driving up from Pompey so I'll be passing the station (give or take). Was hoping to persuade a mate or two to come along but if that doesn't happen then I'll happily to pick up two or three on the way through.
Should know what's happening by Saturday.

James / Pompey : Ever heard of sarcasm ?  ;)

I'll be there - it's only an hour's drive from here - and I'm trying to get a couple of mates to come along ....

I feel for the 600 it must be awful losing your team

Nah, they'll come crawling back to Cambridge.

Yep. And we'd all be supporting Vics if Alty had gone under!  I think NOT.

just you wait to you play Rushden on monday then i will be mine turn to laugh ;)

I hope you're wrong but if you are right then that's fine by me. That's how it should be.
It's what football is about.
The best thing is your own team winning. The second best thing is your local rivals losing.

Vics lost to a 95th minute goal...........gutted for them

What!!  It's brilliant because it's Vics and because they're one of the teams we're scrapping with.

Add Macc getting stuffed at home and I'm saying it's a blinding day!

« on: September 27, 2008, 06:14:07 PM »
This'll sound a bit like the Hovis advert but whatever....

Back in the mists of time there was an old boy who used to chant "Zigger-zagger, zigger-zagger Alt-rin-cham"
I was a nipper at the time and it seemed like a magical incantation. In my memory (possibly not in reality) he used to pipe up a just tje right time when the game had gone a bit flat and the crowd were getting nervous and all of a sudden the crowd would be up and start singing again.

When I think back to teh days I first started watching Alty, that's the chant I remember.

I'll vote for "We're here, we're from Altrincham" for away games.

If it's a new phone is it a different number?

If so then how will people know where to send their numbers?

I'm guessing ... Numbers were stored on the phone not the SIM so he has the same number but not his 'saved' numbers.

Great result and sounds like a great performance.
I've seen posts praising almost every individual with the exception of Lawton. So how did he play?

He probably had his best game of the season that i have seen. A couple of good moves in the first half and was all over the pitch and we saw more of how he used to play. getting hold of the ball, making driving runs and pushing the team on. Didnt stop running all night.

Good to hear. Ta

For those that did reply, most of which appear to disagree or rubbish my comments - well win against Lewes and indeed Mansfield.

Perhaps there is some logic in what I said??

Just to mention I am commenting on results here not performances.

I'll stick by what I said.
Don't think I rubbished what you said but to follow the logic we overperformed last night (so maybe I am a bit now!). I still think, as others have said that the next couple of games could tell us more than the last two. If we can pick up points against the mid-table teams then we'll do ok.

Important 3 points but sounded like we struggled to beat a very poor Lewes team.

Credit to GH for putting on Greg Young up front and he got the goal.
