How they lining up? Looks like one too many defenders so 5 at the back or someone moved to midfield?

I would guess Toulson right midfield. He & Warren are excellent cover for the full backs who might overlap going forward.

Farsley losing

With King holding midfielder?  Sounds good to me.

Let's hope it works!

According to Sporting Life, Alty have the edge with keyman Tom Cahill

Line up is what I expected our strongest line up to be on an earlier thread with Senior pushing Little and Cahill for the striker role.

Lets hope it works as well on the pitch as it sounds!

They've had 2 shots to our none though according to the bbc

May need a little bit of time, but the defense looks stronger & will sort itself out.

We've had 2 on target now!

I take it Munro is still injured?

Anyone else have a good feeling about today's match?

Droylesden 1 up at home to York. I would hope York continue their good away form today.

Halifax down to 10 men v Farsley

Outswinging corner from left by-line taken left-footed by Adam Morning (Northwich), shot by Warren Peyton (Altrincham) drilled right-footed from left channel (12 yards), save (caught) by Scott Tynan (Northwich). Shot by Warren Peyton (Altrincham) drilled left-footed from left channel (12 yards), over the bar. Foul by Tom Cahill (Altrincham) on Simon Rusk (Northwich). Direct free kick taken right-footed by Scott Tynan (Northwich) from own half, resulting in open play.

What the ?????  I doubt it is quite that end to end - a save seems to result in a corner for your own team?

Seemed to be a very busy wee spell of football that

Shots on target
8               5

Shots off target
1                3         after just 25 mins. Must be good to watch (unless you are of a nervous disposition).

Rather more shots than Sporting Life suggests

HALF TIME

BBC:
Shots on target
8                6
Shots off target
3                4

Sporting Life:
4 Shots On Target 4
3 Shots Off Target 3

BBC more excitable!!!!!!

At least it is hundred times better than Saturday!

Fingers crossed for second half - with the new loan signings fitness should be better too.  Them losing Steele just before half time is a bonus.

I've heard the new players looked a bit tired at the end of the first half. They may be a bit short of match practice.

As you say it is much better than we've seen as late so fingers crossed!!

Looking good according to BBC

Possession
47%      53%
Shots on target
9             10
Shots off target
3               5

I suspect Vics might put 10 9 men behind the ball and try the counter attack

Vics have used all their subs. It would be a shame if there was an injury to one of their players!

BBC struggling to get the Vics goal right. Maybe it never happened!

Weymouth 2-0 down. They could get drawn into the relegation struggle.

The perfect day. Huge congratulations to the players, to Graham and to the board for providing him with the funds to recruit all the new players who've clearly made a big difference today.

All the sendings off for the Vics will surely hamper them in the coming fixtures and Oxford had a man sent off too, so presumably he'll be banned for Saturday. Oxford away suddenly doesn't look quite so daunting.

What a brilliant start to 2008.

I wish you, Mrs AltyUSA and baby AltyUSA the best. Lets hope we are well clear of relegation at that point. Make sure BabyAltyUSA is not born on matchday!

A win for us will do wonders for our confidence, especially with the attempts on goal we had.
Vics will be gutted to lose that after their good run
Droylesden's confidence will be hit losing 3 goals in 3 mins.
Farsley confidence will be dented losing to 10 men
Stafford I doubt have much confidence anyway

You saw the passion at the end as GH came over, that meant alot to him as he applauded the away supporters.

As did the whole squad including in particular Colin little, Robie, Scotty, Chris lane and Stu.

Well done lads

very shakey against the eight men. far too much passing the ball about just in front of the penalty area. happy for the three points and the better players but when the two loanees went off we were back to hoofing it up to o'neill who was either offside or penalised for pushing. graham might have celebrated the win, but we are exactly where we were before the boxing day game, so bit early for cracking open the champagne.

For those of you that didn't go,
Cahill was class. Big, strong and skilful. Enough said.
Toulson was surprisingly effective as a right midfield/winger. Very good crosser.
King along with Robbie totally bossed the midfield. It's where we won the game I think. No Byrne starting for them was weird!
Jennings looked a bit shaky to begin with, but grew into the role as the game went on and actually looked like a left back!
Shotton - well, we know about him, won everything in the air and commanded the back, though he made one or two errors which nearly proved costly.
Robbie - ran his f****** socks off!
Laney - strong and assured and the partnership of him and Toulson on the right was a big factor in the win.
Peyton - worked hard as usual, but needs to spend more time on the ball - seemed to panic too easily
Little - couldn't believe his luck having someone like Cahill up front with him!
Tinson - my MOTM - a monster at the heart of defence, didn't put a foot wrong.
Hope this helps!

UC - I thought we looked tired against the 8 men, not shakey. I never thought Vics looked like scoring. I wonder if there are fitness issues.

coburn made two fingertip saves, one from shotton i think! their keeper played a blinder, specially in the first half hour when it like blitzkrieg alty. that has to be the most corners we had in a half all season. cahill very dangerous but i think colin little might be under pressure for his place when senior comes back. he let a golden opportunity slip when he chose to moan at the ref, rather than go with the ball. and for those getting too excited, we don't have all these guys til the end of the season.

i was very nervous when they had the ball in our box with all their guys forward at the end. i was just waiting for someone to go down under a challenge and get a penalty.

i thought coburn was fabulous. he looked better because the defence allowed him to be, as in turn they looked better because we had a midfield, and because we had a midfield the forwards had more of the ball. if we can play at oxford the way we played today we might get something. and if we'd had carlos logan on for the last fifteen minutes today he might have had a hatfull. that game was screaming for someone to run at the defence.

Agree that we needed Carlos to run at their defence in the closing stages - what hapened to him today? Have to say that Stuart hardly had anything to do, but does have a worrying tendency to remain rooted to his line when the ball comes over (see both the Vics goal and some earlier incidents). I thought that Scott Tynan at the other end commanded his box excellently and is far too good for this level.

I never stated we should crack open the champagne, I was merely congratlating a win, that is rare this season.

When they were down to 9/8 we had too much space and time, I do not think we were overly tired. We then panicked and hoofed it forwards.

Perhaps the loanees are not match fit ? Hence GH made changes, to save them for Satdee?

I thought Colin was good today and played some super football, he was unlucky with that super save at the end.

There goalie was class today. Stu still not 100% although he did a couple of good saves.

I understood the five (four really) were full-time players hence no need to worry about match fitness. GH was right to change players near the end to exploit a very tired and depleted Northwich side.

What was worrying was that you should (although sometimes difficult) beat ten men, hammer nine men and get a nice goal difference against eight men. Tactically shouldn't we have put more "up front" to get more goals, I thought it was not very adventurous playing the ball around the back-four at two-one, who knows what could have happened?

All-in-all and given the circumstances the new boys fitted in excellently and we looked capable of scoring more, perhaps (if it ever happens again this season) we should work out the tactics to batter eight or nine men!

Come on you Alty!

DT, my Junior team played Man City the other week with 2 players short all game, and it threw them tactically and we only lost by the odd goal, when we expected a heavy defeat.

I agree we tried to pass it around the back to much, but we got away with it.

Dave,

I understand but the boot was on the other foot this time! I am sure when you coach your team you press the importance of the "spare man", when you have three spare you should really be enjoying it! Northwich did work hard but even so pushing up should surely have reaped an even greater reward (Only in goal terms not points).

But three points all the same irrespective of the margin I suppose. ;D

Weren't we down to 10 men against Droylsden and with Sedgemore in goal? I think that was similar in that it threw their game plan - they decided to chuck on loads of strikers but didn't really know how to feed them the bal and so were totally ineffectivel :)

Well to be honest i thought we were "really enjoying it" after the second goal, i mean if there was stats if possesion in the last 5-10 minutes i reckon it would be 70-75% to us, ok we didnt score or put the game right out of reach which maybe we should have a done and a more synical team maybe would have done but overall we worked our socks of to get that second goal and when we got it we were cruising i thought.

Well Done Alty!

Lets have a good 08'!

Was I at a different game or did we threw Ryan Shotton up front towards the end, going 3 at the back, which lead to Joe O'Neills goal?

Ballers, you must have been at a different game or dozed off for 15 minutes! It was hardly "Blitzkreig" on the Northwich defence although you were correct Shotton did move up (as one of our two/three spare men) to give the "assist" for Joe's goal!  :D

It was a brilliant save by Tynan to deny Little near the end.

I disagree, it was like a night raid. we just couldn't hit the right target. To be honest if we could have replaced Peyton with logan we could have bagged a few. For a team with 5 new players and several others playing their 3rd match in a week its probably better to think about the 1st half than the 2nd. we looked good and fought hard and clean. I was most impressed by how much we managed to keep the ball on the ground effectively.

Narcisous, there was no guarantee that logan would have bagged any goals, that is rediculous.

Logan does not appear to be a goal scorer, but I think Narcissist suggests that he is a goal maker.

From what I gather he will need to improve his crossing first, but he does seem to get us a few free kicks by going at defenders

Carlos Logan may become a very good player (altho possibly not for us) but he will not, simply, become another Paul Showler.

Sorry.
