Title: Vauxhall Match Thread
Post by: robininstockport on January 30, 2023, 11:20:20 AM
Sounds like we'll be resting quite a few first choice players.

Hoping Gould, Dinanga and Hulme start.

VM 1-2 Alty (no idea of goal scorers)

We'll be going as it's only a few miles away but I'd be very surprised if we get a win if we play the reserves given Motors are two divisions higher and seven points clear at the top.

Hope to see Gould playing and the loan player from united. Welch Hayes and Gyasi  I’d expect to get some game time to continue to get used to the team and system and probably Pringle to keep him sharp but not necessarily 90 mins for any.

Aside from that it’s slim pickings but perhaps playing Jordan up front to see how that goes would be beneficial and I’d guess Osbourne would feature in some capacity as well.

Think we should send an Alty 2nd string Xl and get the rest in training on how to defend long throw missiles for Saturdays game! I don’t think Wrexham will go full strength and with a few injuries, we got to be in with a chance of a point?

I agree on this

It's only £3 for seniors and they've got a great clubhouse (or, at least, they used to have) so as long as we play in red and white everyone's a winner!

Why on earth would Wrexham not select their strongest available starting X!?!

Automatic promotion must remain their priority.

They'll play their strongest eleven although might rest one or two if they're carrying knocks.

Their hunger for league points means that they are likely to overpower us.

Because they are playing a team that have lost a number of key players, rebuilding and will be considered a weakened side. With their current backlog of games you can’t expect a top side to play Tues/Sat etc without using their squad.

After all, do we put our strongest 11 out each week? There are always reasons why people may be rested etc

Ryan Reynolds when interviewed the other day said promotion is the main aim for the club, and rightly so.
They will be at max strength as possible on Saturday evening no doubt about it.

1-1 F/T
Alty won 2-0 on pens after VM missed all four of their attempts.

Just got back.
Not sure we had a midfield tonight.
Osborne really needs to be released.

Disagree about Osborne. He needs locking up.

For the record, the goal scorers were Pringle (2 - sort of) and Eddie Jones.

Osborne did a few ok passes but missed his penalty (the first one)

Can I take any positives?

Poor game all round. Gould, Welsh-Hayes both Jones , McGeady and Rodgers -Morris very competent the rest no thanks.

Don't think Dinanga won one header all night

The only positive to take from tonight is that we're through to the next round. An alarming number of our first team players didn't look out of place against a north west counties league team tonight.

Aye, we were really poor, but never know how much to read into nights like that. Saturday could get messy.

Crewe beat Nanwich, so Crewe and us are through.
The other two ties are scheduled for 28/02 so we won't know the much anticipated semi final draw for ages.

I went to the game the other night. Least said, soonest mended.

The draw for the whole competition was made when the first round was announced. The Cheshire FA site shows the chart.
We are in the bottom half of the draw, as are Crewe, so we will play Crewe.

Not necessarily. If that was the case we would have played Alsager rather than the Stockport walkover in the last 16. I’d wait until it’s officially confirmed. Destiny suggests us vs you know who in the final though….baa

Quite. The Cheshire FA website makes it look like they've done the draw all the way to the final, World Cup-style, but I think in reality it works like a normal domestic cup competition and we are now awaiting the semi-final draw.

If you follow each line from left to right each team drops into the next space. This is by no means a unique form of competition format although I don’t know the name for it. Just take each winner in each round and they move across into the vacant square to the right side. There are no exceptions to this.

Is that the system where you take away the number you first thought of at the end? 😂😂

It’s simples.

Alsager were 13th in first round draw.

Stockport were 9th.

Alty were 12.

Remember those numbers.

Alsager were in the group spanning 13th to 16th.

Both Stockport and Alty were in the same group spanning 9th to 12th.

This draw system is used in bowls tennis darts and no doubt tiddlywinks.

WE WILL PLAY CREWE.
