Yeh, the Duke is correct
At the forum something was mentioned along the lines of "Accy comes in and does the job and the arrangement suites both parties, but we need a young keeper to 'push' Stuart".
This is in no way a dig at Stuart. If you look at the professional clubs, they all bring in understudy keepers and some hang around for years without getting many games. I guess the theory is, a keeper can get complacent if there is nobody around to challenge for the jersey.
I remember a local lad joining Liverpool called Steve Ogrizovic, he hung around for 5 seasons and got just 4 games (but has got plenty of medals to show for his time there including 2 European Cup medals !). Ray Clemence, the England keeper kept him out and his presence must have kept Clemence on his toes.
Incidently, you could say he served a good apprenticeship, Ogrizovic went on to play over 500 top flight games for Coventry, winning the FA Cup and scoring direct from a goal kick !
