Excellent. Exactly the team I wanted, Johnson in for Senior with Senior to come on for Elam or Little late on. Brownhill a sub? Doesn't Brownhill play for Droylsden??

I do hope we are making a proper game of this without tinkering with formations etc.

The team need to ask themselves if they want a cup run, get on MOTD etc.

Plight indeed. Yesterday we got a awful win (yes it is possible to have an awful win) 1-0 against a tiny village called Woodford Halse with a population of less than 2,000....reality of how low we are really hit home, i wouldnt wish going into admin or liquidation on any team...

what do you make of meechan??

Very talanted player if hes played right, he is not an out & out right, left wing or midfield although got 2 good feet, gaffer wood have to leave out Colin (& he wont do that) to see meeks full potential as they are two of a kind.

A good result safely out of the way without the need for extra games (replay) that we can well do without given the size of our squad.

Well done Alty - what number league scalp would Luton be? 17?

plus a guarenteed £7500 from next rounds MOTD coverage so a nice little earner!

and with 5000 fans paying approx £15 each that is £75,000 gate receipts split 50/50 is a nice earner of £37.500 and probably more as entrance fee expected to be higher than £15 i would have thought.

So in total £50,000 from the FA CUP this year :-)

Gates receipts are only shared once all the home teams matchday expensives have been covered

They were bound to throw the sink at us what did they have to lose. A job well done, good luck Newcastle BS for the rest of the season.

Luton's average att is 6,000, lowest of 5,794 or something but assume that we're not a great draw for them and say there is about 4,500 there.

4,500 x £10 (average inc concessions etc) = 45,000

- costs of staging game £8k?

= £37,000. Don't think it's split completely 50/50 as the FA take some.

Would prob say about £15k, we won't be on tv either I would've thought and you don't get £7 k just for showing the goals.

Reasonable draw though.

Well this was my first live Alty match of the season and therefore my first look at the 'new way' we are going.  Must say I like the balance of the side, here's what I thought.  Please don't shoot me down in flames, just opinions, mere opinions.

COBURN: How Alty could have survived that last few years without him and the odd AGM?  Couple of class saves at the end when frankly NBS should have equalized.  Only slight worry is he doesn't boss the box enough for me

LANE: Scored I know, but didn't see much else from him

McGREGOR: He looks a little lightweight to be played CB, is he a Right-back really?  Not convinced and certainly not a captain.

YOUNG: What an impressive and imposing player he is.  My M.O.M. and he should be captain.

DOUGHTY: Obviously has the skill, but seems lacking in confidence.  Him and Elam gives us great purpose going forward, but Youngy had to cover a lot in defence.

DENSMORE: Skill and work-rate with quality too.  Loved him.

DANYLYK: I know the forum raves about him so I'll refrain from being too negative, but didn't see anything at all of him of note.

PEYTON: We all know what we get from Warren, 110% and all that.

ELAM: It is so good that Alty have a player who instantly gives the opposing RB sleepless nights just coz he is on the team sheet.  Quality yes but his work-rate also impressed me.

LITTLE: Genius.  Did more in 5 mins that most of the lads do in 90.   Class.

JOHNSON: He's a player who seems to have it all but lacks the confidence and aggression to make that step up to the grade as a genuine target man.  Someone should get him by the scruff and tell him to be more imposing and make his mark.

PS the Italians was great - Quattro Stagioni.  Yum!

It looked 4-4-2 to me, but Ballers does have a point.

If my memory serves me correctly, our formations were as follows:-

We started with 4-4-2
When NBS scored we went 3-4-3
We then reverted to 4-4-2.I can't quite remember whether that was after the first or second goal, but I think that it was the second.
At one point in the second half we were definitely 4-5-1.
Title: Re: Todays match thread.........................
Post by: fuertes on October 28, 2008, 05:46:18 PM
Why have we started f**king about with the 5-4-1 in defence converting to 3-4-3 in attack? That was working brilliantly, then GH seemed to get psyched out by Hollins pre-Weymouth and now it seems we're messing around. Can't we stick with what has proved to be a really effective system?  :-\
