That's what I was saying not so long ago. Particularly with regards to the Centre back pairings who, it seems to me, work better in the pairings of Monroe/Rose and Talbot/Band without mixing and matching them.

'Big' Paul Cuddy was one of the best centre backs ever to wear an Altrincham shirt in my opinion but, as far as I remember, he was much less than 6 foot, and even slower than Mad dog - like Bobby Moore, it was his reading ofthe game and his positional sense which made him great.

Depends on the team - and the way/formation they play.
Response from the Heart ...
They are capable of beating us convincingly if they're on song but I've got a sneaky feeling Joe and Colin will get one each and we'll nick it by the odd goal after withstanding a heck of a lot of pressure.
Response from the Head ...
Either that or we'll get beaten 3-0
Hope the 'Heart' Alty turn up on the day as a good result here - and against Crawley would keep us right up in mid-table until the New Year and boost confidence for the two "Would love to win" games over the hols.
As I always do with the Robins, I'm going with my heart - come on Joe and Col, fire us to a win!

It's funny - when you put them all down, I remember them all (and was at most of them myself) but If asked to recall defeats like that off the cuff I couldn't do it.
I suppose that's another requirement of the lifelong Alty fan - to think back to the past and only remember the good (and great) times blocking these results completely from memory!
Pwhelli ... I couldn't even manage a pint after that one!
Colne (With Chalkie White's money) was a very good team on a s**t tip ground, I seem to recall!
Roissendale at Dark Lane ... was that the one which was postponed at first? I remember going there once for a cup game and finding the game off then going to Burnden Park to watch Bolton. It might be my memory playing me tricks but I could swear they were playing Chorley - also in the FA cup (obviously).
