9-2 v Merthyr Tydfil in 1991.

Their keeper actually had a good game as well!

Gary Wager was in goal for Merthyr that day and was outstanding! It could easily have been 15 without him and that's no exaggeration!

I remember the Merthyr game very well.

They had two fans known colloquially as the druids who looked like the guys from ZZ Top. They came out of the bar, asked the score, got told it was 4-0 and went to the pub

Also remember some Alty fans moaning because we'd only scored 9!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep Merthyr 9-2 on the Saturday and then Boston 6-2 on the Weds.

15 goals in two games...happy times.

I remember the double page that the Messenger did on it....it had the goalscorers pics in footballs around the edge and the headline was "Merthyr'd"

Bizarre as it may seem, I did actually come away from that thrashing of Merthyr just a little disappointed that we hadn't scored a tenth goal (especially as we were 6-1 up at half-time), as I regarded it as the best opportunity I would ever have to see us reach double figures!

Just shows the high standards that were set during that memorable season.

P.S. It's about time that Brian Flynn got his BBC Wales video of highlights from that match transferred onto a DVD!

Not jsut Gary Wager but Merthyr actually playe dok in that game, i.e. they weren't a pub side a la Weymouth last season or anything like that, they were lively and Dave Webber(?) got 2 goals, they were just blown away by an unbelievable Alty side.

And yes, get it sorted out Flynny.

Didn't get to the Merthyr game as I'd moved to London by then, but I did work with a Merthyr fan. They produced a fanzine entitled "Dial M for Merthyr" that published an article along the lines of a magazine problem page giving tips for how to deal with the defeat.

My highest in a competetive game was the 7-1(7-0?) against Barnet in an APL cup game I believe, many moons ago.

SW,

It was 7-0 in an APL Cup Semi-Final Second Leg match on Monday, 25th February 1980.
John Connaughton made his debut that evening, as I recall.

Two days earlier, we had lost 5-1 against Mossley at Moss Lane in an FA Trophy tie.

The best goal I can ever remember was in that 9-2 merthyr mauling.

Wealands rolled it to Harry Wiggins at left back who first timed it to Paul Showler who was on the half way line hugging the touchline....he let the ball run through his legs dummying the covering midfielder, ran on to the ball and diagonally crossed it to jabba who was on the corner of the penalty area and he smashed it across the box and into the top corner...from wealo to top corner the whole move took about 6 seconds.

Vintage alty from the showler year...I think ken mckenna just stood with the rest of team and watched in admiration.

Alty 7 Emley 1 (i think they scored) at the end of the 97/98 season. Comley Excel scored a hat trick and Stuart Coburn made his altrincham debut - in midfield.

After that i think it is beating Cheadle Town 6-0 away in CSC game circa 95/96 where the dreadful Paul Williams still couldnt score.
