To be fair to Dennis Birch, although he does get incandescent with fury on occasions, he certainly knows his non league stuff and, once he's calmed down in the Noel White Suite after a match (!), he's fine to speak to.

Being a main stand dweller, I don't come into contact with his brother, David, but I have heard him in full flow at Alty away fixtures and, in comparison, he makes Private Fraser from Dad's Army seem like the world's most optimistic individual....

Dennis is a surprisingly quitly spoken, articulate gentleman.....whenever things are going well and we've had an uncontroversial 3-0 win.

Does seem to get caught up and carried away by the slightest controversy though.

A familiar figure bursting into the NWS at 4.45 shouting "we should have murdered you!"

Usually calms down with a bit of cajoling and "calm down Dennis it's only Droylsden"s.

Not sure what the answer is as I agree with both sides of this one but I know I'd miss him if he wasn't around.

The Birch's are a pair of racist trouble makers. Whilst some people may excuse this kind of thing because of their age and the fact they secretly know their stuff, they have no place inside a football ground.

As has been said before, if someone like myself was to carry out their behavior I would have been quite rightly banned for life. They intimidate young fans for one thing and thats something our club needs to dearly avoid.

I know who people are refering to on the popular side but dont know his brother, i do however, remember when i first started following alty aged 14 in the 94-95 season there was a guy that always stood golf road end against the boards at the end of the terrace, opposite burger van, he was always shouting 'get him off get him off get him off' at the slightest of bad or late challenges, me and my mate used to chuckle but what was more worrying was that he was very racist !! at that age i thought my god hes out of order, but 14 years ago it was kind of accepted. Is that his brother ?

No that was Steve Mountfield, now lives in spain and was banned from the ground for aiming a punch at a Gateshead player who came to take a throw in.

That were a while ago....I was on duty as a steward that day and was stood right next to him as he took that well aimed punch.

Not sure he was actually ever officially told he was banned as he seemed to know he'd done wrong and sheepishly exitted and I never saw him again.

Originator of "dirty Bridge!" the mouth's legacy lives on.

The aforementioned Mr Mountfield lives round the corner from me, still delights in causing me enormous irritation by bellowing "Hey Youth" in my general direction in the local Co-Op when trying to attract my attention to slag off Alty and has been seen at Moss Lane a couple of times.

He only got a temporary ban for aiming the punch. His last transgression, which resulted in the ban he should still be serving was attempting to strangle Kenny who had told him to 'Stop Swearing'
