Title: Dover Match Thread
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on August 21, 2015, 09:49:41 AM
Another tough fixture in this unrelenting start to the season. Hopefully a rare overnight stay for the team will set them up well. You'd want to think we have signed defensive cover and they will slot in tomorrow. Woking signed cover upfront last week and never announced it until the teamsheet was released on matchday. Let's hope we've done the same.

Yep no reason for the club to do otherwise.

I'll take a point from this one.

Me too. As much of an improvement as Tuesday was, I still think we're in for a long hard season.

Looking fwd to my first visit to Dover.

Densmore leather Parry Griffin

Bowerman Richman Moult Clee

                          Lawrie

                         Rankine.

Another hard game.  Would gladly take a point.

If we can take a point from Dover, and beat southport then we will have taken 7 points from 7 games (FGR, Woking, Guiseley, Grimsby, Dover, Tranmere, Southport). Anything from Tranmere is a bonus

Tranmere Rovers are arguably no better than Grimsby.....we can take at least a point from them.

Forever hearing ' lost by Lawrie' started the season as a passenger.  Get Reeves and Clee on,  Rankine is a good player but we never pick up the pieces around him. Need 4-5-1 with Clee and Bowerman as high wide players and Reeves up top. Need another centre mid alongside Richman with Moult as defensive mid.

Reeves on for Second half instead of Rankine

Agreed.

If Griffith gets up to speed, surely he can sit and Moult can push forward a bit more alongside Richman.

A poor game in front of a minimal away turnout in blazing hot sun.

Dover still a very direct team who play the percentages and had more of the game but didn't really do enough to win it. Their winner a whiff of controversy about it as the ball back into the middle after Coburn had punched clear but injured himself in the process and was lying prostrate in the goalmouth, a lot of Refs might have blown up but as it was at the opposite end to us difficult to say and Dover smashed it into the net from close range.

Positives-Bowerman scored a well taken goal and increasingly looks an astute signing, Parry slotted in well given he can't have had 90 minutes much recently and on a very hot day too, as long as him and Leather stay fit we should be ok during this difficult period.

Negatives-overall it was a very mediocre game. We looked toothless throughout and against a side who were not a patch on Woking last Saturday.

The injuries to our defence have been very disruptive no doubt but hopefully the fact we have a week off now before TRFC can help things settle down and for us to plan properly for them.

Hopefully Stu and Griff not bad injuries , Tranmere going be a tough one ,if Griff out prob play Niky left back , at least we have decent keeper in Deasey

Could the Community Sports Hall be converted into a field hospital with George Heslop assuming the role of matron à la Hattie Jacques?

Just got home from game.

Parry looked decent, Coburn looked bad as he was carried off.

Nothing in the game, the goal was scored whilst Coburn was down injured, game should've been stopped.
Not a bad performance in my opinion, terrificly taken goal by Bowerman

Pitifully small away support (maybe to be expected).

I don't go all the away matches myself like I did as a younger and travel and games are dear but collectively the amount we take away is like the clubs we used to take the piss out of for taking 20 to us

Not everyone has the time and money to give up their whole day(7am-11pm) to travel to Dover. Credit goes to those who did make the trip from Alty. To say our support away support is pitiful is a bit out of order.

Sorry Pitiful was probably the wrong word to use but it was definitely the smallest following I've seen watching Alty, as you would expect given cost/distance lack of coach etc. I meant more exceptionally small given how many we normally take even to the further away games in previous years.

I think it was also exacerbated by the fact that some people are still away on family holidays and, in my case, working all the time at present due to people being on holiday at work!  :(

People go when their finances and circumstances allow, but well done to those who did make it yesterday and see you all at Moss Lane next Saturday!  :)

From my point of view, my own personal circumstances have changed over the summer (buying my 1st house being the main one), so I knew Woking and Dover were no go's. I'm still going to make as many away games as I can, but I know that the days of Dover on a Tuesday night won't be happening 😔
