With the gaffer being at the reserve game yesterday and signing up the new lad are we likely to hear any news of those that are staying and those that are going at any point soon?
-
Bill Waterson said on here that he hoped there'd be a major squad news update this weekend.
-
We are just checking with Phil what he is happy to reveal at this stage. Once this is known, we will let you know.
-
Many thanks for the swift response Bill
-
I await with baited breath
-
Richman signs
Patterson and cyrus leave
-
Suprised at cyrus. Great news re richman
-
Same as Toff Apple. Simon was the only senior player I wanted to stay. I'm also surprised about JC, as I thought he'd be more than adequate at Evostik level, but I guess PP must have other irons in the fire. A bit concerned that none of Lawrie, Evans, Hobson or Owens have found their way onto the released list...yet.

I'm not. Doughty bullied him so he probably decided to cut his losses. If it was PP's decision and not Cyrus's then fair enough but he was part of an awful defence last season.
-
Not happy about Cyrus. He won every header, admittedly he had no idea where the ball was going and couldn't pass for sh*t but he won the header. Believe MD was well over the top with his criticism especially at Hyde.
Patterson's no loss.
-
Parky must be quietly confident of bringing in better than Patterson and Cyrus, and to be honest, I'm not too sure why so many people are 'surprised.' Neil Young brought Cyrus in from Frickley and he turned out to be Frickley quality. We should be bringing in players who are capable of playing, at the very least, in a mid-table National League North side. So far the names on the squad sheet look up to that level in my view.
-
Not sorry to see Cyrus depart, yes he was ok in the air but he couldn't pass a blood test never mind a football
-
Cyrus had at least one mistake in him a game...fed up of watching him jog after a striker making half arsed clearances...worst central defender ive ever seen....its great winning every header but no good if you then pass it straight to an opponent with a clear sight of goal..
-
Him winning every header is no reason for us to keep him on. Tom Marshall never lost a header either, he could also find a midfielder with a ten yard pass.
-
The only thing that's annoyed me about Cyrus going is that I've had to watch him struggle for a season a league above his station then we've binned him now we've gone into a league where he can probably acquit himself quite well. However, if the only regret is what's gone before then it can just join the bloody list and I'll move on.
-
I think Cyrus would have been decent at this level. As for Evans and Owens, we need to get rid.
-
Agreed I think Cyrus could have been worth another go - he looked solid alongside Hannigan at the very start of the season, although the latter's fitness can't be guaranteed.
For now, I trust Parky's belief that he can sign better.
-
Cyrus didn't want to stay

Cyrus didn't want to stay
Ah fair enough.

Probably got a chance of popping up at Shaw Lane.....it's on his doorstep.

Really? Was that when we conceded 18 goals in the first fortnight of the season? Or perhaps the following few weeks when we conceded 33 goals in the opening 11 games?
I actually thought Cyrus improved (ever so slightly) as the season went on. Still, I've no wish to ever see him in an Alty shirt again.
Either way, I agree 100% with you final sentence. If Parky can't sign better players than near ever-presents in the worst side in our history, then he shouldn't have been given the job.
-
Oh? My memory of the season is (thankfully) very hazy, perhaps it was the pre-season friendlies - I seem to remember him doing well and scoring in one that was a 1-1 draw (Port Vale?) who knows.
He did well in one game at least :D
-
Livesey to Salford confirmed. That's one hell of a signing for them.

I think with us being sh*t from start to finish, after a while it became hard to evaluate anyone at all. All rubbish

we have come a long way under Rowley if Cyrus can't be arsed staying.
-

Add Liam Hogan to that, Gateshead captain last season. 3 year deal (kerching). Smart money on them to win the league next year, surely :o

If that's the Liam Hogan who was at Halifax and Fleetwood he's an excellent player

It is the same lad mate, older brother of Aston Villa striker Scott and from Irlam. Danny Livesey is also a Salford lad.

John Cyrus played very well in the opening 3 games against Darlington, Halifax & Harrogate......he hardly put a foot wrong in any of those matches. Four league clubs came to watch him in our next outing & from the early minutes of that 6-0 hammering at home to Fylde, he barely put a foot right, for at least a couple of months. He was injured for 3 of those first 11 games, against Chorley, Gloucester & Nuneaton......we shipped 11 goals in those matches.

He had an excellent pre-season, scoring a fine equalising header against Crewe, I think.

I presume other than what has been announced so far (Moult, Richman, Heathcote, Brownhill) and those already on contract (Miller, Hannigan, Deasy), the rest of the wank have been f**ked off?
-
According to the squad list on the website it's all the players you mention plus Chris Lynch and the new signings.

Although James Poole did say he was looking forward to linking up with him again.
