Lobbying the football authorities to let them put their under 21 side in to the conference, the death of lower league football if this comes to pass....

The Spanish league has reserve sides competing in the pyramid. I think Mallorca B took over a local club and their place in their Tercera Division. I can understand West Ham wanting some competitive football for their youngsters because academy football are just glorified training sessions. Maybe West Ham U21's could take over Aldershot's place in the pyramid if they go bust.

And insofar as development of young players goes, it certainly has its merits - giving youngsters competitive open-age football while still allowing them to take advantage of training facilities, experience of older pros and training with the first team, better standard of coaching etc.

They can train with the first team without creating a situation which could lead to us watching Evo-Stik 1 North football in pretty quick time. >:(

Maybe it works in Spain because there are 4 leagues at Level 3 and 18 at Level 4 - I suppose rather than forcing teams down levels, adding a couple of leagues at level 6/7 could work (even parallel to the BSP?). Considering the tight financial times, it could also have the valuable side-effect of reducing travelling costs and the burden on part-time players by regionalising more?

This will never happen....you can't have a team just put another side out in a league below.....so the authorities say yeah go on stick your U21 side in the conference....so all the premier league sides get the go ahead and do the same....the conf is now the U21 league...where do all the other clubs go?...before you know it the likes of Luton etc are in the evostick North and we are in the Cheshire league....
and the draw for the 3rd round of the FA Cup.....Manchester Utd.......will play the winners of Manchester utd reserves Vs Manchester Utd U21......
we may as well invite all the Scottish clubs into the conference while we are at it.....

There is an answer for poor old west hams problems....stop signing foreign players and loan out your youth players to develop them......nothing wrong either with having an agreement with a conference club to be a developement side allowing (say) a maximum if six loans per season.....apart from the conflict of interests should they draw each other in a cup competition....

This happened in Dutch football this season with Young Ajax, PSV and Twente joining the Dutch equivalent of the Championship (Jupiler league).

For me, it cheapens Dutch football, but it seems since Sky TV in the guide of FOX sports have taken over the two Dutch professional leagues -it seems stunts like this are inevitable.

We will see this here, it is only a matter of time.

Reserve teams in Spain can't enter the Spanish Cup but they can play in the Copa Federacion, which is the Spanish version of the FA Trophy.
