ELLENDER LOOKING FOR A NEW CLUB
« on: June 25, 2007, 01:08:32 PM »

From the Confguide website:-

Paul Ellender is searching for a new club amidst all uncertainty surrounding the future of Boston United and everyone involved at the club.

The 32-year-old skipper has not been paid in four months and has instructed his agent to secure a move away from York Street.

"I've just come back from holiday," Ellender told the Lincolnshire Echo.

"It gave me the time to think about it and it was a hard decision to come to, but I know I need to move on.

"I have been through thick and thin with the club.

"I have gone up from the Conference with them and enjoyed my time in the League as well.

"However, the way this has all come to an end is just terrible - it's horrible."

It would be great to have him back, but he could get any number of  full time clubs.

There have been umpteen threads about not bringing back ex players and I for one don't see why Paul Ellender is any different.....Kevin Ellison maybe as he's only still in his late twenties but to bring in another player of thirty plus who, to be fair, had obvious limitations last time we had him would, in my view be a hugely retrograde step

ELLENDER...obvious limitations????

Mr AltyTunnelSteward, in which direction do you watch the game?  Paul Ellender was an absolute diamond when he played for Altrincham FC.   The word class is perhaps used too much in football but Paul Ellender had ability coming out of his ears.

A top top player.

It was the view of a number of people at Moss Lane at the time and is the view of some Boston Fans that quality as Ellender may be he can only really  play as a centre half where he can face up the play..he really cannot turn quickly enough to be an effective midfielder in my view and doesn't have the acceleration or close control to play up front

Football is indeed a game of opinions which will differ from individual to individual.

My opinions and those I report are based purely on  on field football matters, his loyalty whilst laudible does not impact on his performance

Do you want to see Ellender have a pop at being goalie as well?  Who would you compare himself against, perhaps Jeff Wealands?

Can you get fired as an Alty Tunnel Steward for talking out of your arse?

PS Sorry for being rude but your writing drivel!

Well we don’t really live in a true democracy but don’t worry about that.

How many times did we see Paul Ellender drive forward from the back, getting useful goals and making a nuisance of himself in the opponent’s penalty area?  A class act for Alty, no doubt.

Are we having a laugh on here? With the recent clamour to bring a "fit" Pottsy back, how can anyone suggest that Ellender would be a retrograde step?

I know that positionally, they are different players completely but, to me, the difference doesnt end there.

I would set up a Potts v Ellender POLL if it wouldnt be such a landslide.

That's all very well and good but I think you ought to take heed of what ATS is saying before you go off on one. Ellender was with us in 2000. That's 7 years ago and he's 31 now. I doubt very much he's the rampaging midfielder now that we all remember. Like you say, a class player but every time I have watched football league review over the past year or two he seems to be getting caught out for goals and started to look a bit cumbersome. He's a big lad and as his legs go they will struggle to move that frame about. I think he could be a good central defender for us but elsewhere, yeh still good probably but not worth his wages.

His wages will be considerable and he will go to Crawley or Rushden anyway.

Incidentally my main memory of Paul Ellender is him playing for Gainsboro in that cup final against us. He was absolutely frightening that night!
