Scott set for Alty return
By Connor Murphy
Comment | Read Comments (1)
GARY Scott will stay at Altrincham next season after it was revealed his hernia problem is not as serious as was first feared.

The long-serving full back saw a specialist on Thursday after suffering severe discomfort towards the end of last season.

And it was discovered that Scott merely needs repair work done on a previous procedure rather than a full hernia operation.

He is set to go under the knife on Wednesday and should be back in action before the start of the new season.

The 29-year-old has already had two operations on his problematic hernia but it is hoped this latest procedure will see an end to his worries.

Think we still need a left back to come in. enable peyton to play in his preffered position and chalmers (if he's still here) in the middle with robbie or val.

Good to see were getting there, a few more to come in still.

Bloody hell, you had me worried there....

....I expected to read that we'd given a contract to Andy Scott!

I am a Gary Scott fan. On the final game of the season when I went on the pitch he and Azza looked absol gutted. They were just starring across the pitch ... They both apologised when I went over to shake their hands and I think they genuinely meant it. I of course told them there was no need to and get their heads up.

In my opinion Scotty has never been outstanding but always reliable and does his job very well and knows what playing for Altrincham is all about. Glad he's staying on.

Gary Scott will always have my respect, principally because of the tremendous character and commitment he showed towards the end of the 2003/2004 season, when Alty were scrambling to finish in the top 13 of the Unibond League and qualify for the new Nationwide Conference North.

I recall Scotty playing with a recently-fractured cheekbone against Worksop Town at Moss Lane on Tuesday, 20th April 2004 in a game that Alty had to win.
He scored after only 2 minutes and Alty eventually won 2-1.

Incidentally, the attendance that evening was a mere 484.
Things have certainly changed for the better!

When Alty are a big league club you can guarantee that everyone will say they were at that game, like Newcastle fans do for the low gate years.

Lowest competitve match attendances I can remember were always in that Unibond League Cup thingy, sure we had a few below 200 ... Now how glad we are those days are over. Hyde, Stocksbridge .. and who could forget away at Workington where we won on penalties and got back at silly oclock the next day .. Fair play to those that made that journey... I know I was even less use than normal in work that day... enjoyed begging someone to score and not caring who just so we could go home and it didn't go to extra time .. But it did !

I think that was the match I'll always remember for that incident in the last minute. We we clinging on and were on the attack, the perfect opportunity to hold up the ball, keep posesion away from our goal. Then out of nowhere, Jamie Baguely smashes the ball back to Stuart scaring the sh*t out of every alty fan. SERIOUSLY COUDNT BELIEVE IT. Can anyone confirm that it was that match

Oh God, those dreadful and meaningless cup competitions in the Unibond League days....!

The lowest Moss Lane attendance that I can find was 114 for a Unibond League Cup tie against Vauxhall Motors on Tuesday, 11th December 2001.

A bitterly cold night and just three days after the Match Of The Day cameras had covered our FA Cup defeat at home by Darlington.

Yes, you are correct.

I recall that traumatising incident, too.

Baguley had come on as a substitute and inexplicably launched a 60 yard backpass!

I'll concur. I was with you Gaz and as I think I've mentioned to you before, Scotty and Asa were not 2 'oh look weve been relegated woe is me players' or just trying to enjoy the sympathy of the fans. They were distraught, not in an attention seeking teary way, but way way beyond that of a simple relegation. Not just going down but what it could mean for the clubs future, the whole epic struggle to rise up again. Those 2 know what Alty is about, and you can keep your 'overhit passes/conf north but not conf national' sh*t. I'll stand their corner for as long as I bleed red and white (or red anyway).

To be fair ive seen players do that loads, one of the best time wasting/annoy opponents methods is to give it back to the keeper, u only have to think back to the 80;s liverpool!!!
