from main site:

Altrincham chairman Geoff Goodwin has announced a major fundraising event to benefit both Altrincham FC and the McGrath Foundation, run by Jane McGrath and her husband the famous Australian test bowler, Glenn. As the the McGrath Foundation website explains, "Jane McGrath co-founded the McGrath Foundation with her husband Glenn after her initial recovery from breast cancer. Jane experienced first hand the shortage of breast care nurses in Australia during her treatment and became determined to help others in her situation. Today, the McGrath Foundation aims to raise funds to place more breast care nurses throughout the country while generating support and raising awareness of the cause". Alty fans will recall that our chairman Geoff Goodwin and his wife Suzanne have forged strong links with the Australian cricket team as Geoff's coach company Go Goodwins has been the official supplier of coach transport to the touring Australians, through his contract with the England Cricket Board.
The event will be a football match on Sunday 30th September at 1pm at Moss Lane between a side which will include not only Glenn McGrath but also other cricketers including England's Darren Gough and Alec Stewart. The opposition will be a side featuring stars from Coronation Street and Hollyoaks. A number of the Aussie cricketers joined the Altrincham FC supporters' trust, STAR, when last in England and have kept in regular touch with Geoff and Suzanne from Down Under, where they follow the results of Alty. Glenn is seen, right, in his Alty shirt.

Geoff and Suzanne hope that there will be a bumper turnout for the game for these two excellent causes. From the Football Club's point of view it is vitally important that such fundraisers are fully supported - and there can be few more enjoyable ways of raising money for the Club and the Foundation than watching stars of sport and TV live on the Moss Lane pitch. Provisional prices for the game are £5 for adults, £2 for concessionaries and just £10 for a family of two adults and two children. So, please put the date in your diary.

Further details of the game and its participants will appear on the website in the near future.
