Without doubt the hardest away game of the season. Assuming Mooney and Leitch-Smith are unavailable.
Thompson
Senior. Mullarky Hannigan. Hampson
Furman. Moult. Porter
Kosylo. Hancock. Colclough
County 2-1 Alty (Hancock)

I do like the look of that team - particularly given it can change to a 4-5-1 out of possession.
Having a settled back four for at least a few weeks will definitely help too.

Tickets still available here

We'll pinch it at the death, six points from the next two games. Keep the faith.

Could well be this team. I'll be there, Come on Alty.
-
I wouldn't be surprised to see Peers starting but that team our Stockport native posted would be our best XI
-
Our poor form has largely coincided with Mooney's unavailability. Was rather hoping he'd be available for the Christmas fixtures.

You're not going to be surprised....
-
Of the 3 number 9s, I'm a bit perplexed that it is Peers who has been allowed to leave. Has Dinanga been listed?
Can only think that someone is about to come in.

I am thinking someone is coming in and very much needed.

I thought he'd go with the players he trusted so good to see his head rule over his heart.
Even more bizarre if nobody new joins in the next 24 hours 😂
-
It's not bizarre to me. There both not good enough, doesn't matter is someone comes in or not. Don't want too see either of them again.
Obviously would welcome a quality addition
-
If that was the case, surely Dinanga and a couple of others would have gone?

Need team(s) to want them
-
There could yet be a player in Dinanga, I don't think his race is entirely run but any loan deal really needs to work out for his sake. Looks the quintessential confidence player.
Peersy is probably at his level with Curzon Ashton. He's had plenty of starts at this level now. He has improved significantly as a player over the past season and a half, I think the exposure to the level has helped him grow into a very useful NLN striker. Just not quite enough for the direction we're headed, though.
-
I see on Twitter Stockport have now sold 8000 tickets for this one with us taking approx 500 of them so far. Cracking support on both sides. I wonder when we last played in front on a league crowd of that size?!
-
the quicker we off load the passengers the better. rather turn up with 13 capable than 4 xtra out of their depth

The fact we put the majority of the sqaud on promotion on a 2 year contract, how many are still here/getting starts?
-
At least 7 and 6 respectively. So a majority as you say.
-
The windfall we'd receive from having players properly contracted far outweighs the pitfalls of having someone here slightly longer than we'd like. Generally we've been able to ship people out on loan anyway.
-
So anyway, back to the title of the thread!
How are we going to get on today?
I'm fearing the worst but hopefully County players will be too full of christmas pud and we'll end up with a (late) Desmond. Marriott to get one of them for us!
-
we'll end up with a (late) Desmond.
Full marks for topicality! I can certainly see that score happening too.
-
Line up will be very interesting today. I think we've only got leitch-Smith and Hanks who could play as a lone striker up front so might we go 4-3-3?
-
One all. But of a wet fart of a game.

Team news and we're going with three centre backs

I have a sneaking suspicion it's going to be a very different result :-\

Perhaps PP will finally realise it’s the defence that needs improving.

As well as needing a striker
-
Oh blimey 😕
-
So let's guess. Porter and Digie off at half time and then a second half comeback?
-
Let's hope so.
Well, perhaps not.

Appalling for weeks.

Houston …. We have a problem.

740 away fans according to County Twitter

Bad.
-
didn't lay a glove on them.
No idea where the next win will come from, we look as poor a side as the one(s) that suffered the double relegation.
-
That was a disgrace! We are not going to win anything playing players like Digie…he is utterly woeful! How the hell he gets a game is beyond me! The tactics are a farce too…5 at the back clearly does not work..we need a striker..we literally have nobody decent..signings needed asap
-
Extract from PP's pre-match instructions :
"Just sit on the bench for the full 90 Isaac. It'll give you chance to learn how we play".
Unfortunately, he will have done.
-
Not as bad as that yet but it was v poor today. I can take us being beaten by a technically superior side but when we’re totally uncompetitive, it’s hard to take. Game was over after 15 minutes.
I thought Kennedy Digie was OK. Can’t think of any of other positives and I’ll be surprised if we score a single goal over the next two games…

Shambolic. Abject. Unacceptable.
Pick your adjective or select all three. They couldn't complain at the booing which greeted the final whistle.
The only two consolations were: (i) somehow County didn't put at least seven or eight past us and (ii) it didn't rain.
They looked a yard quicker than us from the kick-off. Moult was poor but Porter was simply woeful.
As for Fitzpatrick, well he's even slower than I am after I've just devoured a hearty portion of Christmas trifle.
The concerning thing is that there doesn't appear to be much scope for positive change with the current personnel.
-
Porter and Fitzpatrick are utter tosh. It needs saying. Surely we can recall Andy White?
Where is Mooney? Where were Pringle and Hampson today? Why send so many players out on loan and bring so few in? Why are we operating with one arm tied behind our backs?
-
The decision to play five at the back completely threw us; players appeared not to know what area they were meant to be covering. It also allowed the opposition to push up easily and gave us very little option to move forward when we did have possession. We operated the same tactics in the first half at Chesterfield and looked dreadful then, so Im not sure why we thought its would be any different today.
No real positives, but Colclough was ok and is clearly our best player, Kosylo put in a shift, and Digie, to be fair to him, played the best game in an Alty shirt. Thompson's kicking is another level of woeful, but he showed in the SH that he is a good shot-stopper.
Not looking forward to the return fixture one bit.
-
Woeful performance.
Not sure what Parkinson was trying from a tactical perspective?
Porter Moult and Fitzpatrick were very poor.
We have to start games better than that, in the first 20 minutes county were a yard quicker whilst we dithered in our own box.
Dreadful Parkinson.
-
If that’s not a wake up call I don’t know what is.
Digie played ok as did Hannigan. Kossy and Colclough worked hard. Fitzpatrick should never pull on an Alty shirt again. Moult is looking very old at this level and Hancock and Porter are out of their depth.
Offload the dead wood, we are very close to a relegation battle.

Colclough was wank. Without doubt are most gifted player, but you wouldn't want him next to you in the trenches

Is there a 14 day cooling off period?
-
That’s the first time under Parky in the National League where I’ve felt we’ve been totally outclassed and not close to the standard. Today was poor no doubt about it, and playing 5 at the back didn’t work but we won’t play against sides of that quality every week. As mentioned in previous posts Fitzpatrick was dire (though in fairness he isn’t a wingback) and Porter even worse. I have no idea how Porter gets a game ahead of our other midfield options on the bench.
Andrew Flynn mentioned a week or so ago about why it is we have players (today Hampson and Pringle) that go from the starting 11 to not even featuring on the bench ? Unless they are injured or covid related absentees than I find their omission from the squad today puzzling.
-
I wasn’t there but listened to Radio Robins. It’s interesting to read totally differing opinions on here about how well or bad a game players had.
Tommo is a brilliant shot stopper but his kicking is abject at best, surely Steve French could coach him on that weak point of his game..
Not sure 5 at the back is the way ahead, .. I still believe the solution is a striker that can hold the ball up… if nothing else it will be stop the ball coming straight back.
Onwards & Upwards (fingers crossed)

Thompsons kicking was awful, as was his shot stopping
-
To be fair to Thompson, his distribution is an integral part of our game. The reason a lot go astray is because he’s trying to pick people out.
I’m sure if we told him just to T**t every back pass he’d have no problems whatsoever.
Yeah, today was wank but let’s keep our nerve and f**k it off and move on.
Every so often this can happen, some days you’re the hammer other says you’re the nail. I’m not happy but the general direction is positive so let’s crack on.
We did try to keep playing I suppose
I’m not happy clapping btw 😂
-
Thankfully I couldn't make it.
Porter is a boy lost in a man's league. Very poor.
I have not rated TT again this season. He doesn't move his legs to make saves and kicking has been poor.
We are weak at LB and possibly CB ( certainly in squad depth).
Central mid is very weak. Moult can't get around the pitch anymore and he's had average and weak players next to him him this season.
Need to get Mooney back fit - what is his injury now?
Get Hulme back on loan.
We've lost some big characters in the squad over the last 2 seasons.
-
I couldn’t make it either but Christ that sounded grim. Obviously Stockport are in a different universe to us on and off the pitch but we’ve competed and got results against all the big boys in the league this season before today, so such a complete capitulation is deeply disappointing and as others have said the first time we’ve really been schooled this season in the league. With a suspiciously well rested Wrexham to come in 48 hours it’s unlikely to get any better you fear.
-
We need new blood and I'm pretty sure the management are on to it
-
Terrible performance today from us and probably one of the worst under PP. defending was atrocious and reminded my of some of our previous stints in the national league. As someone above said I’ve never seen us not be in a game under Phil but we were completely out of it after 10 minutes today. Couldn’t get near them. Midfield non existent and defence seemed panicked and extremely incompetent at times. We need to get out of this rut soon. I know we’re playing Stockport and the like but the performances need to be better. Hopefully we see a reaction in the return leg.
As for Stockport, I thought they were superb. Best side in this league by a mile and should be looking to win it. Incredible support too to get over 8000 for a national league game and the same goes for our away support too. 742 is a great effort.
Poor performance mixed with playing the best side in the league and we got what we deserved today. Needs to improve but I’ve every faith Phil and Neil will sort it out. We go again
-

….
It feels like a huge collection of football players more than it does a squad, to me. And I do apologise if I'm wide of the mark here. There are a number of players that you see once every 3 or 4 games. Why? Is this injuries? If so, we've had an awful lot. Or are players falling out of favour? I don't know about this, either. Maybe we're just a football club in transition and it's part of the process.
It just seems like we see players for a couple of weeks then they fall off the face of the earth…
Completely unacceptable that yesterday. They can have no gripes with the reception they got at full time. As others have said, I’ve absolutely no problem with losing to Stockport County, but to do so in that manner in front of that away following is disgusting. We deserve far better than we are getting and it needs sorting or we will be in big trouble.
-
showed them to much respect and that led to a change of formation, that did not work.Get at these teams from the off and if we go down in the game then at least we go down fighting
-
Think everyone sums up well how poor we were. Stockport were excellent, but we made them look better. I don't normally single out players but DF was atrocious, slow and positional play and awareness was hopeless, led to at least 2 goals.
Hope I never see with the current personnel 5 at the back.
Team is not settled and seems to much rotation. With so many out on loan, not sure where we turn too. We need to see an improvement in all areas and a response.
Hopefully we'll play to our strengths in next game and go down fighting, rather than with a whimper
-
We were outplayed by a more physical side who shielded the ball really well when it mattered. I don't think we can use the loanees as an excuse. They would have been spectators to what was going on at the wrong end of the pitch.
Their crossing was good and the ability of their forwards to get on to them showed what we have been lacking for 18 months. 13 minutes and it's all over.
I'm not worried about a relegation battle but I'm concerned that we've not got a settled team. It could be that Covid is playing a part but at the moment the football isn't flowing.
-
Playing 5 at the back against an attacking team like County and Parky relying on his system of playing sideways and backwards to move forwards is never going to work. We are inviting them onto us from the outset and progress forward is far too slow and error prone. If we are going to do 5 at the back we need to be prepared to play the long ball up to a surrogate Jordan Hulme and have two fast wing backs who can travel well with the ball so that we can rattle our opponents by counter attacking down the left, the right or the middle.
Setting the team up as he did immediately gave Stockport a psychological advantage from the off and also sends out the wrong kind of message to our own players. I have heard Parky say dozens of times that we are an attacking team and that is what we do and we are not afraid of and will have a go at anyone we play. We did'nt see that yesterday by a long stretch.
It is hard to reconcile what happened yesterday with the recent performance against Notts County where IMHO we deserved better than to lose by the odd goal. I still think we have the makings of a steady team that will see us through to safety at the end of the season. We do need to lose a few (we all know who they are) and we need a big guy up front.
It is now essential to get behind Phil and the team. A few good results will see us mid table again with plenty of games to go looking to sneak into a playoff position (well maybe).
-
I lost a lot of respect for Phil yesterday.
I've always admired us going toe to toe with teams with our style. Be it Portsmouth or Marine.
But to go 5 at the back, especially when it didnt work. At Chesterfield, is madness.
-

Correct...it didn't work first half at Chesterfield and he changed it. Not sure what happened yesterday. Presume just trying to keep the score down second half which we did thanks in part to Stockport taking it easy on us
-
The formation was as baffling as the absence of Hampson and Pringle

This wasn't a hammering as a one off. We've been pretty appalling for large chunks of the past 2 month.
Our current trajectory is not positive.
-
If you think Alty are playing bad you should have just watched what sh*te that lot at OT have just served up.
-
Only one game on tonight and it was a draw
-
We have only lost 2 games by more than one goal. This was the only game when we were really out of it.
