"It was just two world class players going for a 50/50 ball."

John King's description of a crunching tackle on Ossie Ardiles in the FA Cup Third Round tie at White Hart Lane: 10th January 1979.

whilst it has become undeniably harder to compete at the top level and even at skrill North level you are only crippled if you try to compete beyond your means.......

however money has ruined football at all levels down to ours when it comes to a team developing youth and using skiilful management to rise like a brian clough at forest to the very top....

Pace comes across well in this. I didn't realise he had decided not to take the club into administration when he had the possibility of doing so and I admire him for that.

The reason why the young British player is overlooked is because they are technically not good enough because of how they've been tought nothing to do with money

Spot on Jimmy.

Also, Clough did bring players through from within or on the cheap. But he spent a big amount of money too. He twice broke the transfer record, and paid millions for players long before it was commonplace.

You only have to watch England play and note how often we lose the ball due to basic errors such as miscontrolling the ball or inexplicably poor passing. It's a real sign of the lack of quality English players when you've got dross like Tom Cleverley and Glen Johnson starting most games.

When you catch a Tameside cab with a driver who can't speak English (except when it suits him).
