Fantastic performance , everybody played well but I thought Tom Hannigan and Connor Kirby were absolutely brilliant. Think Connor must have run the equivalent of a marathon today.

Altrincham controlled and dictated the game for the majority of the afternoon. He’s always been a bitter bastard

Always good to hear a Gary Johnson interview after a defeat when he can't bear to mention the opposition by name.

Discussing the match after the game, we all had a different man of the match (Connor Kirby for me) which must be a sign of an excellent all-round team perfornance.

The trouble with older managers like Johnson is that they've started to run out of ideas and enthusiasm (think Jim Harvey). Torquay will probably get shut of him a dozen matches in when they realise that the Promised Land will remain tantalisingly out of reach again unless new ideas come into play.

The ever-magnanimous Gary Johnson is duly impressed by the quality of Alty's timewasting:

"We was getting crosses in!"

Who does he think he is; Dean Saunders?

And looking at John Laidlaw's site; "Devon Live" were just as bitter!

Here's my favourite sentence from John Laidlar's match report on his The Alty Files website:

"After a brief but bizarre stoppage to remove an errant orange from the pitch, play resumed (12 mins) with Torquay pressing."

"It was just two world class players going for a 50/50 ball."

They should have pressed us instead of the orange, then Johnson wouldn't have got the pip....

Stop taking the pith out of Johnson.

You could see it clearly from the back of our section. A group of about 3 kids on bikes rode up to the back fence of the empty away terrace and tried to lob some eggs and fruit onto the pitch, most just landed on the roof but a couple got through to the pitch as TT was about to take a goal kick, very bizarre.

As for the game, that was a textbook away display by us, score early, take your chances and then professionally see the game out. Our ‘management’ (ie time wasting) of the game infuriated the Torquay fans which I think is a good sign of how we are growing at this level. Only shame Fitzpatrick had to come off early as he was looking good but I saw he walked onto the coach after the game so assume he’ll be fine for Halifax. Our support fantastic too, good numbers and very vocal. The race meeting in Newton Abbot meant it was lively locally too so cracking day out all told.

Odd that the highlights don’t show any of our time wasting that apparently won us the match. It’s almost as if what happened while the ball was in play is all that really matters.  Perhaps their manager should have a word…..

Based on the highlights Torquay got off lightly.
