A lot of people on here feel we should never divert from our usual 4-2-3-1 formation but we won that today with the three centre backs. So is it time to admit that formation can be a good option for us?
Only if we have three attacking players and not three CMs.
Two of attacking players being quick, to get us up the pitch.
Both Newby and Amaluzor were excellent yesterday.
Still think for 98% of the games we play 4-2-3-1.
Agreed, I think it's about having the correct personnel to pull it off effectively - not least in the defence of course.
I'm glad Parky has finally seen sense regarding playing James Jones in the middle - thus playing to his strength in the air, and not to his weakness being taken on - which of course he's so much more exposed to when being deployed on the right hand side.
Jake Cooper's re-emergence has also obviously helped in this sense, in that I think we have a very obvious three when we need to use it.
And then of course you have the balance between the front three; having two strikers playing on the shoulder of the last man like we did with Linney and Hugill absolutely didn't work, whereas having wiling runners like Amaluzor and Newby starting deeper and running at them does.
