Title: Torquay away
Post by: wayno on March 31, 2015, 08:43:57 AM
There are a few of us travelling down on Friday morning to Torquay then returning Sunday pm

Was wondering if any others are staying over and will be out and about for some quiet sight seeing and sandcastle building on the beach .

Have persuaded my missus and a couple of friends that a long weekend in Torquay would be lovely in April.
We'll be there from Thursday to Sunday.
We may find ourselves in the vicinity of Plainmoor on Saturday arvo. Anywhere near the ground god for a pre-match tipple?

Still trying to figure out how to go as I'd normally use the train but it's 4-5 hours each way :(. About the same by road too.

We are here booked in at hotel

Off out to find a fish and chip shop in the harbour

No expense spared on the missus !

Hope the rest of you don't get caught up in the roadworks at Newton Abbot on A380

If you are coming down tomorrow you may wish to consider going via A379 from Exeter thro Dawlish and Teignmouth

84 fans in the away end.How reeve's goal was given offside i dont know. Also according to radio Devon,Baldwin should have been sent off after scoring their pen after throwing the ball at parton,Moult got a booking for pushing baldwin away, then a silly booking in the second half which meant we were down to 10 men.this was a strange game we played well in the second half and were the better team in that period,we were poor in the first, though they were no better than us in that first half.Sinnot did not seem interested and backed out of a lot of 50/50 balls which he might have won.

I thought Reeves goal looked ok.
But wouldn't stake my life on it.
84 away fans, I counted a hundred.
A good turnout anyway.
The team has done a lot of traveling recently, and it is showing.
So glad we have the points in the bank!!

One of those games where the team did not turn up .. would have struggled to pick a mom out of them

They were not much better either ...

Weather was nice ...

That about sums it up for me too. It comes to something when a very embarrassed / frustrated looking Chairman (fair play to him) comes over to us to apologise for the awful playing of the team. They can play so much better.

To be fair, reading that the team travelled down this morning I kind of expected this result. I'm guessing if we had of needed the points the board would have sanctioned an overnight stay. To be expected given our restrictions and makes sense to save money for the Summer.

If I remember rightly the club did a few overnight stays last time up and sacked them off because results didn't improve we won at welling looking at Torquay at are place and seeing welling that was a harder game

84 away fans was the offical number put up on their score board. To be honest if Stu had not got injured and had to go off,i dont think their first would have happened.Stu is a lot more vocal than Dave and would have given luca hell to get rid off the ball.

Felt like we'd gone back to 2010/11 yesterday. Wasn't 4 4 1 1 it was 4 5 1 with an isolated Reeves.

Hope that this is just us winding down the season..

From what iv seen he can't tackle he is not calm on the ball but  best assert  although not great is he can put a cross in so out wide is maybe best position

Considering they are lower than part time little Alty in a league not such an embarrassment. Has all the millions the lottery woman chairwoman put in the club been eaten by Briscoe? I'd be more embarrassed about that to be honest rather than shout about another club.

Silly tw*t that posted that. Torquay are hardly well known for reaching the pinnacles of football. I used to work with a Gulls fan at Merton Council who once went away to Hartlepool as he was attending a wedding in Co Durham. He was the only away fan and was given his own personal steward, Leigh RMI style.
Despite the costs involved however a return journey of what must be at least 550 miles in a day is not good, I can't see a decent display being likely after players getting up at say before 5am in some cases then sitting on a coach for 6 hours. The splendid Torquay United Fc would of course have flown up from Exeter airport and put the team up in a decent airport hotel no doubt. Even if they are as skint as a busload of tramps.

From the Western Daily Mail

Torquay could have won 3 or 4 nil against an Altrincham team that offered nothing all day

Later on

Ex youth team keeper Bobby Babbacombe was deservedly named man of the match after a string of fine saves in the second half

Hmmm

I personally though Lavercombe was a bit shaky and if Alty had managed more shots on goal rather than losing the ball all the time, they could have got a few in.

Yesterday was my first visit to Torquay i have to say its a fantastic town centre and sea front, some amazing views and great pubs and bars with real ale etc
Very friendly out in the town and really welcoming . The food and hotel were great and very reasonable as well and going for the weekend was the right shout given the 4 hour drive there and the 5 hour return.

In terms of the hospitality at the ground well there was none, its an amazing ground and the location and view from the top is fantastic of the pitch and local hills etc

They were very flat (fans) and i would think that they must be running at a huge loss with 1400 there on a great day, rumours at the game of 5 players on 1k a week and lets be clear they were poor - we were just worse...

A mid table finsh for them must be a huge disapointment.

There must have been 15- 20 stewards and they were unfriendly

i understand rules are rules but i hate liars to be told that i was told on entry that i can not take pictures in the ground was a lie, i even gave my bag to be searched on entry without being asked for it and there was no issue on entry if there was they could have told me there

anyway the £25 huge prize draw did not go my way and i was gutted i was hoping to retire, but at least the benny hill music was funny

If progress in football means you have to treat fans that way i am not sure i want to progress

Yesterday reminded me again how much i love home games at Alty - a friendly family club

Also my first trip to Torquay and spent 4 days there making a short family holiday out of it. Also 4 1/2 hours drive each way plus stopping times.

Nice place, clean, friendly and we were very fortunate with the weather. I thought the TUFC staff were fine and the stewards were only doing their job.

Also nice bumping into several Alty fans from the 1970's who have lived in Torquay for years.

I see the official Torquay United video of the match highlights is up at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDVwfROGBkU&spfreload=10 now.

Shame they missed out Reevesie's goal at the start of the match as I was hoping to see if it made any more sense to the linesman's offside flag. They also very left out the melee after their penalty.

I have said it before,
Let's see Reeves goal.
With them not showing it, I assume it was a goal.
The lad who scored the pen should have been sent off. It's not good enough to apologise after the incident.
The officials had a mare😡
