VICS STARS READY TO FOLLOW BURR THROUGH THE DOOR
Northwich Vics are in danger of losing most of their squad.
The departure of Steve Burr and Dave Moss, who command great loyalty, could easily be followed by an exodus of players.
Though owner Mike Connett insists Burr is still employed at Vics, clearly Burr has no intention of returning and a new manager must surely be appointed soon.
Most of Vics players are already free agents. Only a few players are contracted for a further year.
But if stories that they are owed wages are true - and one squad member insisted to the Chronicle this week that they were - then Vics might be deemed to have broken contracts and favorites like Jonny Allen,Kieron Charnock and Mike Carr could also quit.
Connett declined to talk to the Chronicle on these issues yesterday morning, saying Vics would issue a statement when they were ready.
"There are no points to cover as Steve Burr is still employed by the club" he said. "Your deadlines do not concern me. We will issue a statement when we are ready".
When Vics did issue a statement it was only to confirm Steve Burr is contracted to Northwich Victoria 2004 Ltd and is employed by the above club.
With assistant Dave Moss departing the previous week there is no senior football figure to negotiate with existing playersor decide who Vics ought to keep.
The retained list, reportedly was one of the issues which seperated Connett and Burr and certainly it's delay (decisions are usually made before the end of the season) had upset the manager.
A new manager may find he has only a few players left and have to begin a complete re-building of the squad. But Burr is a tough act to follow.
Meanwhile , supporters are again confused and angered by events.
Only a few weeks ago Mr Connett told staff the club was up for sale and a week later issued a denial.
The break up of the side that easily beat off relegation and, but for some atrocious injuries. might have finished in the top half at least, seems inevitable
