Today's dose of nostalgia

Here's an Alty line up from around 1964 I think - the only players I recognise are Felix Reilly in the middle of the front row and future TV football commentator Gerry Harrison directly behind him

The only chap on that photograph that I think I can identify is the one in the long overcoat on the right as you look at that image.

I believe that's Geoff Warburton, a former Alty player who later went on to act as a physio for the club in the 1980s.

Didn't he have a long association with Heyes Albion, too?

I'm certain that George Heslop will remember him well.

Does the ball say 1963 on it?

Also, the guy on the far right looks like he's about to pull out a gun.

Wow, Ivan Crossley (sadly passed away I believe) with hair.

Ah yes, Steve Johnson. Released by us because he couldn't get a regular spot. How we all laughed when he revealed his ambitions to play League football, after all he wasn't good enough for us !

Went on to score 119 goals for 6 different league clubs  ::)

And the marvellous Mickey Brooke (RIP), too.

Lennie Dickinson - socks rolled down and ready for action!

Not exactly the best goalkeeping options at that time though.

And it's hard to believe that Eric Shreeve was still around at Moss Lane in 1976.

One of my all time favourite Alty memories - Mickey Brooke hitting the bar with an absolute thunderbolt at Ewood Park when we were so close to upsetting Blackburn in the Cup !

Possibly my favourite memory of Mickey Brooke is his goal in a 2-0 win in an FA Cup Second Round tie at Droylsden back in December 1978, which of course facilitated our first encounter with Spurs.

Mickey Brooke was playing up front that day as JR was suspended, as he had been the previous week when Alty beat Netherfield 1-0, and he scored the goal.

The question on everyones lips when looking at that photo - where is Joe Flaherty?

Didn't Joe only join us early in 1978 ? I seem to recall he'd only played a handful of games before our big day at Wembley.
