Title: Refurbishing the Noel White Suite - Your opinions and views please
Post by: Ballers on March 20, 2011, 08:33:05 PM
At yesterday's TASC meeting we discussed that perhaps it was time for a bit of refurbishing of the NWS, well for refurbishing I guess we mean putting some new pictures up really but we'll see. Maybe that the excellent Ashes 2005 posters are past a sell by date and we could sell them on Ebay (surely a market for it) and replace them with some more Alty centric pictures/prints.

So basically, what you you like to see happen in the NWS. Open forum, absolutely anything and anything you want to suggest and we'll see where we go. Any pictures/posters in particular you'd like to see? Maybe something different (move the tv screens?), anything you'd like to see us try and add in (quiz machine?).

We're not saying it'd all be possible but want to know what you think, what needs to go/come in.

In particular we'd be interested to hear if anyone's got any pictures/newspaper cuttings etc that we haven't seen before and could get put in. If so please put on this thread or PM me on here.

Anyone seen anything in other social clubs that was good?

what sort of feel do we want for the bar? A nostalgia corner? Colours?

And discuss.......

Interesting stuff Ballers.

I believe that the Noel White Suite should be like a shrine to the achievements of our great football club.

However it must be tastefully done as it has to be remembered that its also a function room that could be hired by non football people.

Its always bugged me that we have a couple of little picture of some great teams and that it.  Whilst the Australia cricket connection was a good publicity feature, I've no interest in cricket and wouldn't know one Australian cricketer from another.

Pictures like Kenny McKennas winner against Kettering in 1991 by Cliff Hase should be pride of place along with some of Gavins more recent classics, as well as the obvious Everton/Tottenham ones.

I have every paper cutting from about 1989 to 1995 from the Messenger, Guardian and Express Advertiser I think (as my mother reminds me each time I visit her house) and a few more random ones.  I'd be happy to donate anything that is needed.

A fruit machine would be a good and moneyspinning idea

A few thoughts:

Photos from our big FA Cup games at Everton, Liverpool, Spurs (79 and 95), Birmingham City & any others.

Photos from our appearances at Wembley and, ideally, photos of Alty lifting the Trophy.

Framed retro shirts, perhaps signed by Alty legends.

On a more general note:

Could we get one of those lottery card machines like they have at some other clubs? Might make the club a few quid. These are the kind I'm talking about: http://www.interclub.co.uk/club-ticket-vending-lottery-machines.html

The only things I can think of is a bigger bar area if possible, a quizbox would be really good but pricey, how about a jukebox like the one in the brickies? Anyone can burn cd's and there is more longevity from them, plus u could put Emerson Paul lake and Carlton palmer on repeat   :D

Might be wrong but think you need a gaming licence for fruit machine......machine then needs to be in use more than once a fortnight

I have most from about 81-89, if anything is wanted (used to have most from 79 onwards, but I appear to have lost a box with two whole seasons worth of programmes and cuttings in the course of several moves).

Pictures of the current players and management team like in the sponsors lounge.

A board listing all current sponsors and contact points.

A fixed bucket collection point near the door or on the bar (that might conflict with tips though).

A Yankee board showing the big winners and amounts.

A jukebox MAY need a music licence. Both these things need checking, lest the overheads outweigh the advantages (both good ideas in principle though).

Not sure we should be encouraging copyright theft.

Some good points here Jenga that hadn't crossed my mind. And excellent contributions from all, keep them coming.

Many good ideas here IMHO

We have to remember however that we make a reasonable amount from hiring the place out and having Footy Memorabilia all over the place, as much as we love it, may put some potential hirers off.

Maybe demountable display boards that we can take down before any hire where they would not be so welcome is the answer.

Space is somewhat at a premium too so, excellent as gaming machine or jukebox may be as ideas would the space they take up potentially reduce our licenced capacity in addition to the financial and licensing implications?

If people hire a function room at a football ground surely they should expect football related memorobilia on the walls.

Actually on this point I spoke to Jenny before putting this post on here as a matter of courtesy. Jenny replied that it's our bar and should be exactly as we want it and that people who book functions here tend to just cover everything up with balloons, happy birthday banners etc anyway.

But I agree, if we've got huge 6ft x 4ft prints of John King, Jeff Johnson (in the bath!), Gerry Casey everywhere or 6ft x 6 ft if we have one of Stu Coburn and need to fit his ears in then yes it might be a problem and as Ecky says needs to be done tastefully.

The sponsors lounge is quite good.

Putting pictures of this years squad on the walls might be the only way of getting some of them to ever enter this side of the bar as well so that'd be good!

I know the one problem I have when I come in at half time/full time is that I can't always see the TV screens- maybe a small one above the entrance would be alright- it all depends on how much money is available.

here is another minor suggestion -

how about having Dunham Massey beer on sale in the bar? It is a local brewery and, to be fair, tastes damn fine (anyone who has been in Costellos in Goose Green knows how good it is). They might also be up for a few advertising  hoardings round the pitch as they seem to be a local company that is doing well (and good on 'em, says I).

I don't know if the bar is 'tied' to Hydes -it would be a shame if it is. Hydes has been a  lot better than last years offer, but a Dunham beer option at the bar might be worth considering.

For anyone interested in getting hold of Dunham Massey beer, they have a shop at the brewery. It is near the big tree at Dunham just off the lane that leads back to Oldfield Brow. Well worth a visit.
No I am not connected in any way to the brewery apart from liking their beer.

Taking it one step further, Maybe someone could get in contact to see if they fancy producing a special "Robins Beer" for the club. Much in the same way Woking have their own beer - Cardinal Gold IIRC. (http://www.wokingfc.co.uk/news/article/694/cardinals-gold-lager-launched/) A good thing about that is it could be sold in other pubs in town giving us a bit of a presence in the free houses of Altrincham and also be sold in crates for people to take home.

I guess it depends on how long our contract with Hydes runs for.

I got a few bottles when I was in the area last year - I will be doing the same this year. Its quality stuff!

I actually think that is a blinding idea and worth raising with the club to see if our marketing guy can get a deal done. It would be great for the club if a run of something with our name/colours on could be done and distributed around the local area as well as in the club bar. obviously the likely take up rate would need to be assessed and an appropriately popular beer style chosen.

the lewes one would be better in the players dressing room in my opinion.  Show them what this club means to the fans, and the sort of support they will get at Moss Lane.

There's only about 30 people there!

It's a decent effort for the distance but it's hardly worth making a song and dance about.

Also, while the Northwich photo is amusing, more for their glum faces and refusal to even glance sideways, a photo of a load of us sticking up v and wanker signs over a fence to people is not going to be something we put up in the club bar.

Ballers, I have a framed white shirt from 2004/05 season (although Centenary shirt) signed by the squad which I bought at one of the auctions at the Cresta.

Due to already having many an Alty stuff up in the house, and no room for this (its in the loft) I would like to know if it would be able to go up in the NWS ? If not then I'll find space for it when I move I'm sure.

Let me know if you want it for the NWS.
