Stuart Coburn: a Top 20 Veteran!
« on: July 22, 2012, 12:37:15 PM »

In the list of the Top 20 Veterans of the 2011/12 season in today's issue of The Non League Paper, Stuart Coburn makes an appearance at No. 18 and is described as follows:

"Passed the 500 appearances mark for Alty in January 2011 and has now clocked up 547.

First joined the club in 1997 and, but for a brief stint with Leigh RMI, has been an ever-present between the sticks for the club.

Was voted second in Alty's Player of the Season competition after yet another solid campaign."

Stuart may well be aggrieved to note that he has finished one spot behind Darren Tinson.

However, at least he is one position above our dear old friend, Frank Sinclair!

Being picky with the NLP report, it was 1998 when Stuart first signed, just before John King resigned.....therefore probably February.

we should mark this with a presentation to stuart....perhaps a commemorative souvenir bus pass or something...

Looking forward to another season of super saves from the legend!

He deserves recognition. Has there been a season when he has not been amongst our top 3 players?

Well done Stuart, a 1-0 win at Telford and the day he scored at Runcorn, particular favourites  ;D

Stu's performance v Nunny in the FA Cup (Darlo season) including a pen save and the most amazing save where he seemed to change direction in mid air (we won 3-0) was the most exceptional of GK performances.

Indeed, quite the best performance I have seen from a Goalkeeper at any level in a very significant number of years of watching football.

Nuneaton fans of my acquaintance still speak of it in less than polite, yet admiring, tones

Definatley, the other memorable moment of watching that video other than the greatest goalkeeping display I've ever seen, is when Thornley is scoring the 3rd (?) and all you can hear in the background is PA man Ecky shouting 'GO ON ROD!!'  ;)
