The season of the school kid programme cover, how cringeworthy that was.

Without cheating and looking stuff up in old NL Directories ( it's Christmas, there's time  ;)) I'm going for the well known Ian Murphy.

Is there a prize?

That's the chap.
He must have really impressed in that 4-0 defeat, as he was never seen again in an Alty kit!

You win a Darren Heesom moustache and curly black wig gift set - ideal for that New Year's Eve Fancy Dress Party.

Finally got out to the garage to cheat my way to this one - it is indeed Ian Murphy.

So here is a much easier one: which Alty legend scored his first goal for the Robins at Farrar Road?

Bill,

I reckon that there are actually two correct answers to your question:

(i) John Rogers in a 2-2 NPL draw back in August 1977;

(ii) Barry Whitbread in a 2-1 APL Cup replay victory in October 1979.

Traditional old football ground replaced with no atmosphere open playing field. Mind you, Bangor fans are horrible and deserve their god awful new ground.

The point we're all missing here is the slow strangulation of a once proud member of the old NPL by the stupid insularity of the Welsh FA.

Gaaah Whitbread!  I had forgotten him.  And I was at that game too.

But the JR goal sticks in the memory  more because it was our first step to greatness

But to be fair to the Welsh FA (not something I would usually advocate!) they are somewhat hamstrung by FIFA,in that if there is not a national Welsh league, then there cannot be a Welsh International team.....and this ties in to the reluctance of the Wesh FA ,among others, to join in a UK olympic soccer team

Alty's last visit to Farrar Road for a competitive fixture comprised a 4-0 defeat in a Clubcall Cup First Round tie on Tuesday, 4th October 1988.

Here's an ultra-obscure supplementary question:

Who made his solitary appearance for Alty in that game?

Ah, now was this somebody a relatively good player or at least supposed to be but bailed out straight away?

Bangor (and the other Welsh clubs) also had the best of both worlds where they could enter the FA Cup and FA trophy but have a crack at Europe in the Welsh Cup.

Just been past Farrar Road today...the bulldozers are in , the stands half demolished and the pitch looks worse than Droylsden's.

Will be glad when its over, they're not my team but it looks just terrible.

Hope to go see their new stadium soon, they're trying for more seating ..http://www.theonlinemail.co.uk/bangor-and-anglesey-news/local-bangor-and-anglesey-news/2012/01/04/bangor-city-fc-want-1-500-seats-at-new-nantporth-ground-66580-30052691/

Good luck to them...might be a good ground for next years pre-season

Last night Bangor played their first game at the new stadium, a North Wales Coast Cup game against Caernarfon Wanderers.(6-1 win)

On Saturdasy, the ground is "Officjally" opened, with a game against Wigan Athletic. (The "development" squad, not the 1st team!)

The last time Bangor played Wigan was away, in Wigan's last game as a non-league club.
