I remember a game there being called off around 1979-1981 ish, during very high winds and rain. I also have memories of Tony Sanders being in the bar after the postponment, claiming the referee had got his feet wet on the pitch inspection and called off the game. He seemed very angry at the time.

Q a side stop en route home at Rhyl Town, and the famous fire extinguisher incident. We only wanted to watch a football match. Any would do!!!!

I've corrected it for you Steve  :)

Steve, I recall that particular fixture, too.

I believe that it was Monday, 2nd January 1984.

Travelled over to Bangor on the train for that one, only to discover on arriving at Farrar Road that the game had been called off at the eleventh hour.

Ended up having a few drinks in the Bangor City Social Club and then cadging a lift home from the then Alty Director, Ernie Fryer.

Just two games later, Tony Sanders resigned and departed from Moss Lane.

I hope Ernie wasn't drinking Cult  ;)

Alty's last visit to Farrar Road for a competitive fixture comprised a 4-0 defeat in a Clubcall Cup First Round tie on Tuesday, 4th October 1988.

Here's an ultra-obscure supplementary question:

Who made his solitary appearance for Alty in that game?

I don't think any of us are going to get this, without a big clue......or perhaps even with one!

Was it Brian Flynn? He did the Clubcall for Alty and the team were a man short for such an important fixture ? :D

The season of the school kid programme cover, how cringeworthy that was.

Without cheating and looking stuff up in old NL Directories ( it's Christmas, there's time  ;)) I'm going for the well known Ian Murphy.

Is there a prize?

Every time I have seen the ground over the last few years it has seemed a wee bit delapidated. It would be a shame if they have let it run down to justify a new stadium.

Finally got out to the garage to cheat my way to this one - it is indeed Ian Murphy.

So here is a much easier one: which Alty legend scored his first goal for the Robins at Farrar Road?

Jackie Swindells' first goals for Alty were a brace at Moss Rose towards the end of the 64-5 season.

The game I am talking about was our second match of the relevant season,on a Tuesday night, my first visit to Farrar Road on a Godfrey Abbot minibus that held maybe 15 people.  I thought the match ws gong to be abandoned just after half time when a torrential downpour that lasted maybe 20 minutes blew in off the Irish Sea
