No, but it would have added to his mystique - Joe Flaherty or John King in an eyepatch would have been a sight to behold.

I only remember him scoring once for us - Hyde?  NWFL?  But I do remember feeling we were destined to defeat whenever we had vairiants  / more than one of on Alan Heathcote, him, Paul Clements, Joe Flaherty as our midfield / up front.

I was going to say Stuart Robson (brother of Bryan) on the off chance he may have played a game for us that I wasn't aware of. I don't think he ever did though.

I remember him playing against us at Moss Lane for Gateshead though. Midweek game, Robbo was watching from the stands. Think Stewart Hamill scored a great goal for us.

Absolute screamer of a strike at the Golf Road end and on his debut? It was a given that he wouldn't be able to follow that - he hit the bar a couple of times in later games but was destined not to score for us again. I think he got a couple against us at Moss Lane when he was playing for his previous club Nuneaton in an amazing 7-4 Robins win.

When I was at school, on my blazer I wore a badge I'd made from a picture of Joe Flaherty out of the Altrincham Guardian with the straight to the point headline underneath - "JOE FLAHERTY - HE SCORED A GOAL"

Tony Bannister made his Alty debut during the 1975/76 season.

As I recall, he lost the sight in one of his eyes as the result of a motoring accident circa 1977.

He did then attempt a comeback during the 1977/78 season, starting five league games for Alty before moving on (possibly to Burscough).
