That was  CRACKIN' GOOD CHIPPY. It was over 20 years since it was my local chippy and I remember the chap who ran it was very tall!

I would be interested to learn where Vernum Rowland is now. Seems a young lad full of promise drifted away. His Dad, Albert was a big mate of mine and his Granddad - also Albert Vernum Rowland use to drink with us in the Moss Hotel.

I remember Rowland was a decent prospect & played right back. I think he went on loan to Nantwich & never returned.

Comley-Excell was goalscorer extraordinaire, if memory serves.

Was talking to Kieran Lugsden on facebook and he said:

"Hey there mate. Was at leiggh rmi all season until i left 2 go 2 buxton 4 the remainder of the season but it hasnt worked out like id of liked it 2! So ive resigned 4 leigh rmi until the end of the season! Hopefully something new will come up 4 next season! Ive bin keeping tabs on alty, im still a big fan and id love to play there again someday! I just hope they survive"

I was always a fan of Lugsden, from what i remember (because i was only around 10ish at the time) he was quick and one of those strikers who was pretty good in the BSN (well, Conference North as it was then) but nevr really made the grade as a Conference player.

Me too. Think Lugs was lacking in strength a bit. Maybe he'll come good in the future though, I thought he had great instinct for goal.

Personally I thought Kugsden had enough chances and was at the club long enough to make an impact. I'm sure he'll do a great job further down the pyrmaid for a team.

Hendley is the biggest annoyance for me cos if he didn't believe "the hyp" and hung on at Alty for a little longer, learning the game then he'd be doing very well for us now, in my humble opinion.
