McCarthy Goes
« on: October 26, 2010, 06:30:10 PM »

Altrincham FC announce that they have released striker James McCarthy. 25 year-old James was signed from Warrington Town on 27 August 2010, having been on trial at Crewe Alexandra a fortnight before that. Before joining Warrington he played for Mossley, Leek Town, Alsager Town, and Kidsgrove Athletic. He went on to make eight appearances for Altrincham, three of which were as a used substitute. The Club thanks James for his services and wishes him well for the future.

Possibly didnt get the run out that he expected. Looked ok, but a bit rusty in front of goal.
Hopefully Twiss is still going to the weight watchers meetings.

I'm a little surprised that we've let him go. Maybe Ken cannot afford the time for him to come good.

I think this is a shame because he had something to offer. Does this mean we are bringing in yet another new face or are we balancing the books?

Seems about right to me.  We will be trying to bring new faces in I am sure.

Think he had some potential but potential isnt really what we need at the moment.

Kenny again proving he is not scared to make decisions though...

Hopefully if we do bring in new players they stay. I can't help but feel that if we keep releasing and signing it will have a negative effect on the squad on a whole.

We can't improve without releasing people. And I wouldnt say anyone in the squad this year (bar the obvious stalwarts) could moan at being released.

Fingers crossed that tippy tappy Crowell is next...

Most definitely, Crowell has been awful. Yes it's true the players who have been released have been released for a valid reason, it's just a shame because we really need a squad to gel and if we're constantly releasing players this will never happen.

Both exactly right. Maybe if we had a good full squad in mid table (i.e. with Young, Senior, Doughty, Johnson, Kearney all fit and firing) Holsgrove would have been useful as a last 20 minute replacement for CLee on the left wing. As it is he's looked way out of his depth.

McCarthy hasn't played at this level by the time he's 25 as he isn't a regular goalscorer, we don't have time for him to sort that out so thanks and good luck.

There are a few on contracts who would've gone by now I'mm sure.

I can't see that McCarthy was on decent money, so I can't see it frees up much in the way of funds.

Thought he had good potential and am miffed he's gone.

The only two players who will be on a good wedge and non-contract are Coburn and Lawton I think. Coburn ain't going any where but it would not surprise me if Lawton went.

The correct decision. Little glimpses of skill but no goal scoring threat at all. Fair play to Kenny, he is now reshaping his squad bit by bit and I would bet he is working overtime to get rid of one or two others that aren’t up to Conference standard.
Matty Crowell and Michael Welch next please

Spot on.

I don't think any manager would get rid of Robbie Lawton.

His fitness and drive and determination make up for the fact that he is sometimes going to make a square pass right to the oppositions feet.  I suspect he is a good guy to have around the dressing room as well, certainly his programme notes always make a lot of sense to me.

While there is an argument to keep him, we don't really have the time to wait and see.
If he couldn't score in that Kidderminster game, I wonder if he ever would.
The deadwood is rapidly leaving this club, Crowell next please!!
