Altrincham FC First Team / 3 players gone
« on: May 10, 2009, 02:01:18 PM »
From main site. GH has released 3 players;

1. Lane
Thought he had done well, maybe we have a bit more defensive cover, although lane played well all over the back line.

2. (Super) Joe O'Neill
Height and strength the best thing about joe, although never looked liked scoring many. With Denham, little, senior and Johnson, probably have enough cover upfront.

3. Warren Peyton
Commitment was always there, but never really looked "conference premier" player. Probably best remembered for building the snack bar and turnstiles.

Altrincham FC First Team / Stevenage 3 cambridge 1
« on: April 30, 2009, 10:54:36 PM »
Stevenage had a player player sent off, one of the worst decisions i have seen in a long time.

Steve Morison scored twice as 10-man Stevenage took a firm grip of their Blue Square Premier play-off semi-final against Cambridge United.

Stevenage looked up against it when Darren Murphy was sent off for violent conduct on the stroke of half-time.

But Mark Roberts fired the home side ahead, only for Lee Phillips to volley Cambridge level within two minutes.

Morison rose above Josh Coulson to head Stevenage back in front, before adding a third as Cambridge poured forward.

Chances were at a premium in a competitive first half, although the best fell to the visitors as Phillips was narrowly wide with a fierce 25-yard drive and Danny Crow headed Jai Reason's cross wide from six yards.

The tie truly appeared to turn in Cambridge's favour in first-half stoppage time when Murphy was shown a straight red card by referee Rob Whitton, following a consultation with his assistant, after challenging Jon Challinor in the air at a Stevenage corner.

But the 10 men refused to lie down and were ahead within two minutes of the restart when Roberts prodded home from close range after Morison had headed Andy Drury's free-kick back across goal.

The lead was shortlived thanks to Phillips brilliantly firing home from the edge of the box after Crow had chested the ball into his path.

Stevenage were back in front on the hour when Morison beat Coulson to head in another Drury cross for his 29th goal of the season.

And after the visitors had had a penalty appeal waved away, Morison took his tally to 30 and gave his side a two-goal cushion to take to the Abbey Stadium in the second leg when he fired left-footed past U's keeper Danny Potter after more good work from Drury.

Altrincham FC First Team / The Build Up To Cambridge
« on: April 25, 2009, 06:02:04 PM »
From the local cambridge paper;
U’s can do it!
Cambridge United’s amber army are determined to roar their club back into the football league tomorrow.
More than 7000 fans are expected to pack into the Abbey for the match with Altrincham, with the tantalising prospect of promotion from the Blue Square Premier lying before them.
The U’s are 3 points behind league leader Burton Albion and need to make up a five-goal deficit, so a high socring victory combined with a loss for Burton against play-off hopefuls Torquay United could send them up.
A fan quote adds “the title looks so tantalisingly do-able, with Burton on the slump and facing a team (Torquay) needing a win, while Altrincham have nothing (apart from pride, the club’s pride and a place in the squad for next season) to play for – if torquay get a few goals it could happen...”
Brabin (Cambridge Manager) also adds:
“It’s the biggest game of the season for us, but we’ve just got to treat it as a free chance if things go our way, because I’m confident we’ll get the right result against Altrincham if we apply ourselves the way we have in every game... if there's a chance it's still on late on, we've got to go for it then, but that's another scenario and there are a lot of ifs and maybes that could happen. We've just got to be professional and conduct ourselves in the right way”.

The paper also thinks we will line up with
Acton, lane, young, welch, smith, doughty, danylyk, densmore, wilkinson, johnson and little. however isnt lawton back from suspension??

Im wondering what Cambridge will think if United balls up the play-offs and let Histon escape into the heights of Football league status.

Altrincham FC First Team / Ryan Shotton
« on: May 04, 2008, 07:50:43 PM »
Congratulations on ryan shotton's club getting promoted.

So possibly another player with Altrincham on their CV playing in the premiership. Who will be the first to name the other ones?

Altrincham FC First Team / January transfer window.
« on: December 17, 2007, 02:24:15 AM »
.... from the main site "the playing budget which has recently been enhanced by the Board of Directors".

So what can we expect to bring in?
Certainly a left back is still a priority, as is a tough tackling workhorse midfield player, also someone who can stick the ball in the back of the net would help too. And someone to replace Shotton. so not much really.  :-\

Looks like a busy time for GH.

Altrincham FC First Team / Reality Check
« on: July 07, 2007, 04:25:25 AM »
Right then first friendly today. Question is do we actually have a squad of keeping us up?

We have brought in a few very good signings, but defence still worries me. I think we need a half decent left back and maybe a centre back to backup tinson. (personally i dont want to loose 5-0 to york again).
Midfield is a bit short, maybe Asa can slot in there???

upfront we still lack pace, little is severly lacking pace, having had poor season, i hope he can come back - o'neil, hopefullly he can score freely or rodders and mcfadden will be called upon regulary.

pottsy and senior would add another dimension to our squad, i would like good wingers on both sides to give our attack more options.

anyone any idea of other future signings (apart from potts and senior)??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Altrincham FC First Team / Is this some sort of joke?
« on: March 18, 2007, 08:06:01 PM »
Taken from our official site, it seems that Mr Peake's hard slog of dotting all the t's and crossing the i's has paid off.

"Mr Moules is one of the nominations for the Sanex for Men Non-League Paper Awards in the Administrator of the Year category. Amongst the nominations for Commercial Manager of the Year are Tamworth's Russell Moore and Forest Green's Colin Peake."

Quite funny really - they give awards for anything nowadays.
