Altrincham FC First Team / Frustrating Grays Game
« on: February 27, 2010, 05:22:36 PM »
Grays Frustrating

Good first half with bags of chances, Denham went very close twice, little and senior having excellent chances too. Grays keeper made some very good saves, though very questionable what Kearney was booked for.
Second half went a bit flat, with Alty changing their approach to attacking. Midfield looked a bit sparse with Densmore being pulled back defensively, and poor defending from a good cross gave Grays the lead. Alty then plied more pressure on Grays, and good play saw senior score at last. It was the right decision to send the Grays player off, but I thought the elbow should have been straight red.

The ref was a bit inconsistent, particularly stopping the game when a Grays player was injured OFF the pitch, and not playing advantage for a foul on Kearney, where senior had a clear advantage.
McAliskey looked a bit cumbersome, and didn’t really get involved much. Clee, Kearney and senior all outstanding, but Smith came off with what looked like a hamstring injury.

A bit disappointing that we didn’t win, especially considering other results.

Altrincham FC First Team / Chester City (again)
« on: February 09, 2010, 05:52:41 PM »
It's being reported that chester may not be able to muster enough players for their trip down to FGR. Thier coach has apparently had to wait ages for players to turn up at two different meeting points. Radio merseyside have also informed their listeners that the game is off, as chester couldnt raise a side.

Chester city supporters have also cancelled their coach, as they expect the game to be called off.

Altrincham FC First Team / WIMBLEDON OFF AGAIN
« on: January 11, 2010, 01:50:42 PM »
Called off, next attempt next tuesday 19th January 7.45

From our lovely official site:

AFC Wimbledon announce that "Following a brief inspection of the pitch, tomorrow night's game has been postponed. It is now scheduled to take place, weather permitting, on Tuesday 19 January, kick off 7.45 pm". So, our league game in the Blue Square Premier due to be played that night against Mansfield Town (away) will itself be postponed.

So were up to 6 to re-arrange now, can we make it 7 by beating wimbledon??

Altrincham FC First Team / Season will NOT be extended
« on: January 09, 2010, 11:50:45 PM »
From our fantastic main site;
Blue Square reports that "Dennis Strudwick, general manager of the league's governing body, says they currently have no plans to extend the current campaign beyond April 24.
A number of managers in the Blue Square Premier have already voiced their concerns over an ever-growing list of postponed fixtures... However, Strudwick was keen to point out that it would near impossible to change the season's scheduled finish. He told The Press: 'We don't have a crystal ball to see what the weather will be like in the future but I don't think a season has been extended for many years - certainly not in my working career - and it's not on the agenda yet. April 24 is the final day and, for one thing, it would not comply with players' contracts to end the season beyond that date. You also couldn't change it for some clubs and not others who manage to finish in time. That date is what we work to in order to get the play-offs in by the third week of May.

You don't start a marathon and then ask the runners to do more than 26 miles and 385 yards. That's where the finishing line is and every effort will be made to stick to the season as it stands'".

In reaction the York Press states that "The Conference have insisted that every effort will be made NOT to extend their league season... City finished last season with eight fixtures in 20 days, completing their programme with games on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday... But Strudwick does not feel alleviating that pressure by staging Trophy ties earlier in the season or during midweek is an option. He added: 'A change like that would need to be decided by the FA but, with the number of league games that we put on during the first half of the season, you have to ask where would the Trophy go? There is still ample space for midweek league fixtures now because of how we structure the start of the season'”.

Hughsey will be a bit pissed off. Looking ahead, it seems unlikely that we will see any football at moss lane until the end of January, unless we all get our hairdryers and blowtorches out.
Seriously, the wimbledon game has to be in doubt for tuesday - latest weather for wimbledon is that it will be slightly warmer than here, but are expected to get a little more snow before tuesday. We can all try to be positive for getting anygame on at the moment, but i am starting to fear for our run in. We could well end up playing three games a week for closing fortnight.

Altrincham FC First Team / City - United OFF
« on: January 05, 2010, 01:41:53 PM »
Not enough city fans to sweep away the snow.  ::)

Looks like hughesy's suggestion of swapping to old trafford would have been an expensive failure as well.  ;D

Altrincham FC First Team / Wrexham
« on: December 23, 2009, 06:04:24 PM »
Seems Dean saunders has fully prepared our team talk for boxing day.

"I never had Christmas Day off except when I was at Benfica and the season closed in Portugal. We are professional athletes and we will be preparing properly as if it is a World Cup match. The players have got to be focussed and we will be ready. Whether Altrincham will be I don’t know' "

Im sure we will be up for it. Get another 3pts on the board and roll on york and wrexham again.

Having a chat about how he came to work for Sheffield United and play part-time for Alty

there is another one about Mark Mcgregor, which curiously says "Currently Mark plays centre half for Altrincham FC" despite being written on 05/10/09
Mark's other 2nd job is a driving instructor.

Altrincham FC First Team / Barrow training in SALFORD
« on: May 12, 2009, 11:24:35 PM »
Main site confirms BARROW are set to train 3 days a week in SALFORD next season.
So is this full part time, part time or full time?

Barrow's joint boss is a coach at salford sports village, and he is looking to steal local youngsters for their side, as they are unhappy with all the talent going to morecambe and preston. I dont suppose they have heard of man united, man city, bolton, blackburn, bury, rochdale, stockport........

It seems most of their squad is located nearer to manchester than barrow, and i suppose some of the players couldnt be bothered to travel that far just for a training session. Nor would i like to make that journey on a freezing november thursday evening.

I also hear that they will have a team bus for ALL games next season, as this cuts down on travelling expenses for the players.  ;D
