Title: stalybridge going full time?!?!
Post by: casper on June 03, 2010, 10:08:28 PM
From main site:
"Last season Stalybridge Celtic's average home gate was 472 but they are following the AFC Wimbledon model of going full-time on a smallish budget, with an emphasis on youth. It can also be confirmed that Celtic intend to become a full time club in July, although it is important to put this in context. Sadly, we will never be able to financially compete with the big spenders in our league and we need to look to a different way of trying to achieve promotion. As a result of the current environment, and despite the fact that we are going full-time, Jim's budget will actually be slightly lower than the one Steve Burr started last season with so if we cannot buy our way out of this league we need to be more creative in how we face the challenges ahead.

Consequently we have made the decision to go forward with a focus much more based on youth, a policy that is sure to find favour with the club’s supporters."

On an average of 472?!?? Are there no limits to this lunacy??? Wot will happen to Oneill, peyton and the rest of our old boys?

Bye Bye ! how backward are these people. Still great/crap memories from the place. A tuesday night in the 90's winning 3-1 with Ricky Harris scoring a brace, the down side Martin (big bastard that can't run) filson in the FA cup  :-\

If they stick to the idea about going full-time with a team full of kids, thus not overspending, then good luck to them. Personally I don't think there's a cat's chance in hell a load of 17/18 year-olds can get you promotion because they've been training every day, but as long as the club doesn't bankrupt itself I won't be moaning, it's their business.
