Should have taken Stu instead: ;D ;D ;D
-
The best goalie in the squad should have been picked and the ironic thing is that he probably wont even get a game ..... Joe Hart
Carragher to slow. Wright Phillips clueless, King Injured and Barry not fit...
It doesnt look too good does it
-
I am trying to think of a time stuart coburn has minced a ball so badly like that?
any suggestions?
-
Quite the howlerl though with the save later at least he showed he's capable of more.
And I can't remember Stu doing anything of the sort! :)
-
James has made howlers like that, its a pity because it cost us 2 points.

Cult,
Never heard of them ;) ;) ;)

These things happen from time to time to most keepers, it's just a shame when it's on a big stage. If it hadn't happened and he'd been beaten by the later effort when he saved well no one would be saying a word.
The USA are very underrated, not the fools of years ago. Most of their squad play in top leagues in Europe.....ok, DeMerit plays for Watford....

Quite funny http://2010bc.freeiz.com/

The save he made later in the match wasn't as spectacular as everyone is making out. Any keeper worth his salt would've stopped that at his near post and made it look alot more comfortable than Green did!
-
What do Michael Jackson and Robert Green have in common ?
They both wear gloves for no apparent reason :D
-

Agreed. In fact, he was desperately close to making a big second mistake there but in the end got lucky. It certainly wasn't the 'redemption moment' that some were making it out to be.
-
it was also the first mistake green has made for england and it is not entirely his fault that england failed to beat a limited usa side.
shall we look at the anonymous and negative lampard, rooney who was dreadful etc, or perhaps we should look at the inclusion of king who hasnt been fit for years or carragher who is no longer good enough, picking milner who was ill for several days before, or replacing him with the useless swp (personal opinion) so the central midfield were light, or perhaps heskey and swp who shot straight at the keeper?
no
lets blame the goalkeeper

Joe would undoubtedly have held it.........

No, let's blame Capello. Having watched the "highlights" (glad I didn't waste my time on the live game) I'd agree with all of the above. Failed to pick his best keeper (Hart), selected unfit players (King and Milner), persisted in teaming Lampard and Gerrard who simply don't function together, Wright Phillips has deteriorated over the last two seasons but got a gig ahead of Joe Cole (always a potential match winner), Carragher is past his sell by date but got in ahead of both Dawson and Warnock. Heskey played well enough, but my grandson's a better finisher. If Slovenia draw with the USA, and then with us, we could well be lined up for a stuffing from the Germans. Then perhaps the T**ts next door and over the road (she's one UGLY bitch) will take the stupid streamers down that are defacing the area.

To be fair to SWP he was played out of position on the left which is why IMO Adam Johnson should've been included instead of him because he's equally at home on either wing.

Joking aside i would have been very disappointed not to turn it around the post quite comfortably.

well yes, why take swp. an identikit lennon with even less end product and leave a genuine surprise package at home?
but then why go through qualifying playing upson and then decide there are another 2 centre halves who should play instead?
i have been so impressed with capello until a couple of months ago from which time i think he's done everything wrong
-
i thought green took it on the chin quite well
-
No great surprises last night really, who didn't already know:
a) Fabio had forgotten to pick a left winger in his 23
b) Heskey plays well but can't score for toffee no matter how simple the chance
c) Carragher and Terry are too slow for international level
d) at every world cup some England player does smoothing stupid (Rooney,Seaman,Beckham,Waddle,Wilkins ....)
-
To be fair to Green, the mistake by the Algerian keeper was worse. This new ball thing seems to have many keepers confused as well, though the way the germans were knocking it about was quite good.

Fully agree. Think is just shows how poor the premiersh*te has been for the national team. Carragher shouldn't have been anywhere near the final 23, nor should King. But then again, we dont exactly have many world class players.
As for gerrard and Lamps, they are both similar players. One plays with world class players every week, the other with a load of halfwits, who make him look like superman.
-
I can't remember the last time Lampard had a good game for England - he was anonymous the other night.
Terry is very much overrated.
Carragher turned his back on England - he should not be allowed back.
Heskey had a very good game - but you expect a forward to be able to score.
Wright Phillips - why?
Green made an almighty blooper, but England should not be relying on a 1 goal lead. We are not as good as the media seem to make out.
-
To be fair,i thought we might struggle against the Yanks.people are correct about Green with his redemtion moment,it could very easily been an own goal.I was glad wright philips got a game, just a pity on the wrong wing.Would never play Terry again in an england shirt.Lampard did nothing for most of the game.Rooney did come alive in the second half.Must have plugged him into the electric during halftime. Our trouble is we never seem to want to finish teams off once we get in front,i am a firm believer of going for the throat.United (spits on the floor) used to do that in their home games in Europe a few years back and England need to learn how to do it,just no pace there.its all done at a stroll
-
Having just watched the highlights of yesterday's matches (which is my limit) I'd conclude that we won't have any trouble with Algeria, who are VERY poor, and that we should struggle past Slovenia. BUT if we find ourselves in the runners-up spot and have to play Germany, they look capable of revenging that famous 5-0, and will probably take great delight in doing so.
-
Loving the fact that people who swore off watching any England/World Cup matches are now offering opinions on the basis of a few minutes highlights.
Gerrard and Lampard played well together, Heskey and Lennon also impressed too. Rooney played poorly, but I'm sure it'll come together for him. On the whole I think we deserved to win. I think Green's mistake knocked everyone's confidence and if it wasn't for that I think we could have gone on for a comfortable win.
It's early days, worry not.

You must have been watching a different game to me! Lennon didn't put a decent cross in all match!
-
Its a case of getting the bad luck out of the way now for me, I think Germany were made to look good against a shocking Aussie side anyway, I also see us playing France and beating them in the second round and by then all this will be forgotten
-
We can't play France in the second round, I reckon it will either be Germany or Ghana.

Afew minutes highlights and the full commentary on Radio 5 Live actually. I could, for example, give you a very accurate assessment of Histon from watching them for about 2 minutes. More than that would be a waste of time that could be better spent - and the same applies to England.
-
I see the german firm adidas supplied the controversial ball to the bundesliga for the last 6 months, oh and to the adidas sponsored Argentina too. Now which two sides have been able to control it....?

All that tells me is that two of the best sides in the competition have been the best at controlling the ball.
I refuse to entertain the notion that there's some major "ball roundness conspiracy" taking place! :D
-
We had the best part of 50 minutes to get a winner and didn't even look like scoring. Blaming the keeper is utterly pointless, as so far, both the germans and the argies would tonk us.

d) at every world cup some England player does smoothing stupid (Rooney,Seaman,Beckham,Waddle,Wilkins ....)
What did Waddle do beside have an extremely laughable mullet haircut, take a woeful penalty and play for Worksop ?
Plenty of others have missed a penalty; Stuart Pearce, Gareth Southgate and of course who will forget that penalty miss by David Batty......even his own father could not believe he had stepped up for it.
My greatest moment watching England - The first minute goal by San Marino (Mr Pearce).........do I not like orange

Don't watch the highlights then if it's a waste of time, your negative agenda towards England and the World Cup is embarrasing.
I thought you were completely boycotting the tournament? Yet you are watching the highlights and listening to games on the radio!??
-
Hopefully England won't even get out of the group to save them the embarrassment of getting outclassed by anyone half decent.
-
Have to love these Koreans

I think the world cup is a corporate love-fest. I am not watching it, not seen a minute, a pass, a goal...nothing. not listened to any games. I know it's a corporate love-fest by the adverts, billboards, adverts etc. The sooner it is over and we get back to Alty FC the better,
I don't care who wins. Don't give a toss.
It's almost a different game...
That level of fotoy holds zero interest to me, truly am not arsed on iota.

it was also the first mistake green has made for england
Entirely incorrect!!!
I think we might have gone on to win that game without the mistake but without analysing it to much I would sum up the performance as providing more questions than answers.
As a side note, SWP had a good game in the sense that he neutralised the Yanks best player in Landon Donavan with his constant running. Donavan's influence gradually started to wane and SWP deserves credit for that, regardless of his ability (or lack) in other areas of the game. I think that's why Milner was picked ahead of Joe Cole, but I'm surprised he was risked as anyone who has a form of temerature or virus in the week leading up to a game is always way off the pace.

I didn't say I was completely boycotting the tournament - I said I wouldn't be watching the matches. By picking out bits from the highlights, and listening to sections of games on 5 Live between jobs, I can miss out all the irrelevant commercial sh*te (eg Hyundai ads) and still have my finger on the pulse. I am, after all, a betting man !
However, confession is good for the soul. Coming home to an empty house at half time last night, I lapsed and watched the second half of Italy v Paruguay - with the sound off !
-
rooney was quiet for the game because he had at least one man , man marking him , and as soon as he got the ball, he was 2 or 3 man marked . thus out of the game !! and this will continue throught the tournament, because without him we are NOTHING !!!
-
The Korean keeper made an absolute howler for Brazil's first ....reminding me of Andy Dibble allowing a Lancaster player to do him at the near post......let's see Jennifer's dad make a double entendre out of that one if he can!

Jezza,
And wasn't that Lancaster City player a certain Peter Thomson, who had an unspectacular spell at Alty in recent times...?

Better than doing him with a near post!
Hang on! Have I got a reputation or something!

Well the fault lies with the players around him - if there is 3 players marking Rooney, that leaves 2 other England players free, and if they cant shoot, cross or pass with no pressure, you have to wonder why they are playing for England
