There's news about Connor Kirby on the club's website now.

This somewhat predictable news doesn't appear to have set pulses racing.

Hes good enough  but still could do with another midfielder ?

I think it depends what news follows it.

This is not a criticism of anybody, but at the moment I feel very worried about next season.

I think he's got potential and will grow into the role with us... but Parky did hint that he has someone more experienced in the pipeline too, during the recent q and a.

Yep, agree, Parky did state in that Q&A that he had someone in mind & implied virtually sorted to replace the void left by Smith leaving...

Kirby did well last season and i welcome him staying as can grow further with us... good luck Connor...

That said, we still need a couple of new faces (two or three) imho before the season starts... hope we have more signings lined up & ready to welcome or we may struggle next season...

He is a young player that, I would say, Harrogate think will improve. For them to offer the loan, rather than the sale, for half the season indicates to me they think he will become a better player for spending time with us.

Alas, because of this I don't think we will be looking at anything permanent.

Trying to keep confident we've got another Smith incoming after PP comments.
Hoping we've got another experienced striker coming too.

Really pleased with this, I thought he was great.

A really small proportion of free agents have been snapped up so far, and this time last year we had none of Senior, Smith, Kosylo or Colclough at the same stage.

There will be more to come, I'm sure.

Great loan signing

The loan system can work for us - I would sooner these young players came through our youth set up - but we have to be realistic.

I think pro clubs and players can see the development potential when overseen by Parky and Sorvs. This faith will see others either join through long term loans or sign on to progress in the way Smith has. Not ideal to operate this way, but serves its purpose for now as the club continues to progress

It is only useful (or possible) if we stay up in this division. Let's hope we can do this!
Imho we need to be scoring quite a few more goals this year as that will make the opposition stand off us a bit more which in turn will help take some of the pressure off the defence.

Up front, as far as I can tell, we are relying on a bloke to score, who has hardly ever scored at the level we are playing at. We will get relegated, unless the manager has a few aces up his sleeve.

Sadly, that's how it looks at the moment to me too.
I just haven't wanted to say it explicitly.
I've still got faith in the management to get someone appropriate in, but the clock is certainly ticking. 😒

We're a full 5 weeks away from "the big kickoff" and a lot can happen in that amount of time. Don't forget that our Player of the Season was one of last season's trialists. I admit that I think we may have a battle on our hands, but the Mighty Robins are built of stern stuff.

Strewth, hardly anyone has signed for anyone yet and I'll reiterate we had none of our best players this time last season. I'll reserve my judgement just yet.

Being full time Parkie and Sorvs have the time to increase and improve our relationship with some league clubs and this could very well lead to more deals like this.

Please expand on "best players" For my money our best 3 players were already on board at the time you mention

You’ve got three better than senior?

I think its the way that this pre-season has panned out so far.  A really poor run of form (when admittedly we were experimenting), loss of Alistair, poor league start timing has meant unusual preseason games.  All feels flat so far.  I think with the current squad it could go either way, we could easily match and win some of the early games and then we will feel much better.  There is a fear that we have run out of a bit of momentum.

The sort of clubs who finished below us have already strengthened substantially. Look at Weymouth, King's Lynn, Barnet and Dover for example.
Also, only Wealdstone and Dover will be part time like us.

I think the worry is we've kept some players who perhaps should have moved on to make room for new ones. We could only accommodate one or two more and even then we might have to send one or two out on loan.

As you say though, there's still time and I'm sure the management are doing their best working within the budget they've got - which, I think I'm correct in saying, is the biggest we've ever had.

Our star performers last season were Senior, Smith, Kosylo and Colclough. None were with us at this point.

You can argue with me all you like, but you can see the sensible point I'm trying to make here.

Fortunately football is a game of opinions

Sufficient to say that I'm not the only one holding this view
