The only person who needs this metaphorically slapping them in the face is the chairman.

[/quote]

I wonder if he will feel the metaphorical slapping more as a result of this being publicised in advance in the media, quite rightly,  making it difficult  to brush under the carpet.

Yes, I have thought too  it's funny that the protestors , apart from one comment of happy clappers, have been at pains to respect other opinions, while  several of the pro-chairman people, if that is what we can call them,  don't extend the same courtesy.

What sort of effect will a walk out protest have on the team in a crucial relegation battle especially if we concede early

Relegation battle? Are you on crack??
Good question. To put it in context, the most points we can get are 43, if we win every single game ( and, even with our recent "good" run, we have won less than 10% of league games).  Last season, Lowestoft Town were relegated with 46

I don't know if I will walk out - probably I won't - but I respect the motives and loyalty of those who choose to do so. They are really not letting the team down - I think it has been vcie versa for most of this season - and I also don't want to hear,  although no doubt I will, that the walkout is responsible for the club's  relegation,  nor that anybody who does not walk out is a member of a silent majority who must be happy with things as they are.

Yes, he played for Walsall when they lost to Macc.
At least, you can see another ex-loanee, Luke Waterfall, playing for Lincoln City, although he didn't quite make the same impression.

Sorry, but I'd release Deasy in May. His fitness is too suspect for us to gamble on him.
Thats why he got released last May, but some idiot resigned him and put him back on a 2 year contract

Dont think it was Young though

Think it was Val Doonican

Hardly! Deasy made his second debut at home to Stockport, when the caretaker triumvirate were in charge. Presumably, the chairman authorised the signing....

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Stats Zone Founder to join the team
« on: March 03, 2017, 12:47:43 PM »
I used to work for Prozone, a very big statistical analysis company based in Leeds, with, at the time (I'm going back to 2003) half of the Premiership and a few bigger Championship clubs as clients (as well as some in Holland, France UAE and international rugby teams). Now this was analysis on a much grander scale, at the time it involved installing expensive camera and computer equipment at the grounds that cost upwards of 250,000). The company has since been bought by the global STATS company. It definitely works and even more so when you are one of (or maybe the only one) at your level to be using it. It definitely gives an advantage. Obviously this advantage diminishes as many other clubs at your level start using the same system (shouldn't be an issue at the level we will be at)

Interesting stuff, but the difficulty would be in obtaining reliable and substantial stats on your opponents at Evostik League Level, as surely you need the fullest picture possible (taking your point,  for the sake of this argument,  that it does work - it would be interesting to see, well, the statistics of results for clubs who employ this method against those who don't).
Incidentally, if we appointed managers on the basis of their statistical record, it wouldn't exactly look good for the current incumbents.

Thanks for the comments, it has been interesting to gauge the strength of reaction and I will now resist in infuriating any of you any more. Please understand it was dome for the best of motives and purely was my initiative......I don't know anyone in 'power' at the club.

I still think walk outs are empty and negative gestures but I do respect that most of you are nearer the coalface and have had to suffer the footballing disaster at first hand. Personally I would have preferred something a bit more constructive with a more positive end in mind for all parties.

Has there ever been talk about a Spectator Representative being given a place on the Board with a specific remit to be the bridge between the Board and the spectators?

Is there any mileage in an open letter signed by supporters thanking Mr Rowley for all the work he puts into the club but suggesting it would be a two way win if he reverted back to vice chairman and that a new Chairman was elected ?

Incidentally does anybody know the background as to why Mr Shaw left the board? Would he have liked to be Chairman?

Here's hoping for a result tomorrow night but only the most extreme optimist would not think our relegation is not assured.

Over and out to the relief of most of you!!!!

You have some good points there. Obviously, emotions are running high currently, and people, or I at least, can be sensitive to any perceived criticism, but I am sure you posted for the good of the club and I am sorry if I impugned your motives.

One of the recommendations at the meeting was to have a supporter representative on the board, which the board did seem quite keen to take on.

As for the open letter. Yes, that seems like a constructive suggestion to allow him to step back a little with dignity which a lot of people, me included, would find easier to support than a walk out, but I can't see it having any more effect than the poll on the other thread; you could argue that both are self selecting and some people probably will.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Walkout planned for Stalybridge at home
« on: February 28, 2017, 08:10:11 PM »
At midnight, after the meeting, I had posted that I accepted Grahame Rowley's comments about the press interview and that, on balance, he should remain as chairman, with the caveat that he needed to retain the fans' support. I also note Uncle Globnasty's comment about the reporter.

However, I have now reversed that decision. Let me try to explain why.

Every time something bad happens there seems to be an attack on the supporters from a third party, to deflect criticism and force the supporters to justify themselves. We had a disgusted police officer at Trafford, Neil Young after his resignation and now Spring suddenly appears at the time of this protest (at least, Spring has posted his own comments rather than had them "reported" by someone else). I really don't think this is coincidence.

Now, we are having to justify how much we volunteer for the club, how long we have supported them or whether we would spend any reduction in admission price on beer, rather than discuss the running of the club. Whether or not this is coincidence, it demonstrates some peoples' contempt for supporters.

PS I used to live more than 200 miles away, but still got to quite a few games (not that I would blame any exile for missing games this season!)

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Strategic Review Meeting: Coverage

It is quite confusing. Under the Equality Act 2010, you are allowed to offer concessions on the grounds of age (either young or old), but you can't discriminate on the basis of sex, as I understand it.
You are probably right and it will end up being 65 for all, sooner or later, if not older as the pension age advances.

« on: February 27, 2017, 12:27:55 AM »
I understand Mr. Rowley accepted that the appointment of Neil Young was a mistake. Well, there are mistakes that have little impact and there are mistakes that impact hugely. In the context of Alty FC this mistake has cost us a relegation, lord knows how much in paying out contracts, made us look stupid in the media, split the fans from the board and torn a massive hole in the playing budget. That is why its time for you to resign Mr. Rowley. Please.

He did say that was a mistake (and Young is a convenient scapegoat, no longer being present at the club, not that he said that), and also gave a more forceful and plausible defence for the  NLP journalist taking his words out of context  - he was being questioned in the car while being "pissed off".  I am prepared to accept that in the absence of any new evidence to the contrary.

However, he didn't  speak as well as Bill Waterson or Mike Adams, who both spoke eloquently and with good humour, as did Ian Watmore who  moderated the meeting.

There is also an awful lot in the strategic review document to go through - much more than was mentioned at the meeting, such as an artificial pitch -  so,  on balance, I wouldn't  call for his resignation now, but hope Mr Rowley and the board can steer this through, for the sake of stability, without necessarily taking on all its suggestions.

I have come to that conclusion in the course of writing this post, although the fan base's reaction may make his position untenable.

« on: February 20, 2017, 09:21:51 PM »
As expected a total white wash written by a Rowley family friend to keep Rowley and family in power

Who expected anything else?

That's a bit harsh, as the report does call for the board to refresh itself, although that word "opponents" does nag away at me. It obviously depends in the first instance how the board react and re-establish trust with the "stakeholders", and if any open, inclusive and meritocratic (interestingly, there is no mention of it being democratic) process is put into place.

Maybe I am either a cynic or easily satisfied, but it was less of a whitewash than I was expecting.

I went to see my local team yesterday, who many on here will recall-Fisher FC. Now back in their spiritual home of the Docklands after years away. Bumped into Jimmy Hill there, short conversation about Alty, both worked out neither of us would bother attending another game this season. The most important thing left for us now is the Review next Sunday.
does fishers ground still have the mini wemberley towers

No, they haven't played there for a few years. The reformed club have now got a ground on Salter Road, which is the same road as the ground we have played on, but I believe it's a completely different site

Can we read anything into the absence  of any chairman's column in the programme? I don't know, but it's strange   in view of the impending review meeting, which, it just occurs to me, doesn't appear to have been mentioned in there either. Providing I haven't just missed it, I find that an incredible omission as not everyone has Internet and surely we want as many people as possible to be aware of this important meeting.

As for the game,  it's a decent enough point in the current circumstances and I am sure we will hear how vital the clean sheet is, but unlike Tim Deasy, neither Harrogate goalkeeper was stretched. Credit to John Cyrus for his bravery and commitment.

Fitting that we are sinking to Marine's level (if not lower).

Any time can have drawbacks. If it's before a game, the meeting has to end abruptly as people get ready for the game, if it's after a game, people get tired after a long day if the meeting drags on, or if it's a Sunday evening, people, especially those who live some distance away are unwilling to make a special trip, but, at least there are fewer counter attractions.

I agree with Tommy and hope that the findings should be published first, so anybody can make informed comment.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Curzon to be full time in 5 years
« on: February 07, 2017, 10:15:42 PM »
There are already three clubs in National League North, not that we will be in it much longer, who are full-time: AFC Fylde, Kidderminster Harriers and Nuneaton Town.
If Nuneaton Town can be full-time, there is really no reason why we cannot be, if the will is there, but we also need to recognise that it doesn't suit some of the older players, so, if we were to do this, and I don't know how the sums add up, I would look at having a  core of younger full-time players, but with some training sessions in the evening where the part-timers, the likes of Nicky Clee, for example, join in.
