Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Reserves Vs Wythenshawe
« on: March 28, 2017, 10:36:52 PM »
Where's young Clayton been?

Think he's been turning out for Droylesden?

1 all at half time

He had been at Droylsden, but he was basking in the sunshine at Bradford last week.
Final score 1-1 in a game which petered out somewhat, and where captain Joel Swift, who has played for the first team in the past,  went off injured. Probably a fair result. Wythenshawe are pretty high in the table, but we did field a strong team.
The first team management were watching, by the way

3rd bottom might be good enuf?? Rumours

Worcester?

I assume Worcester are the most likely, to resign, but, even then I think that if a club plays on until the end of the season,  the reprieve is determined over the step as a whole, so we would have to overtake Gosport as well as Gainsborough, for example.
It is all academic, anyway, if course. I did hear from a neutral at yesterday's game who expected us to be fighting for every point and was amazed at how spineless we were, until injury time.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Match Thread BPA away
« on: March 25, 2017, 11:07:04 PM »
I thought the 516 wasn't too far out, with, as York Alty etc. says, 40 or 50 away.

Very unfortunate for Newby to finish what has been a very decent loan spell in a poor team in this manner. I didn't have a good view myself, but nobody seemed to have seen anything wrong, although the referee did indicate an elbow. It wasn't a good game, at all, with a poor atmosphere in a ground I can't take to, although BPA always seem a friendly club.

I assume some of the surprises in the team selection were just to give players who haven't  played much recently a game, but who knows?

My own highlight was to see some photos in the pub I visited in the city centre of a gentleman named Karam  Chand who died last year at the age of 110! After googling him, this is genuine and he holds a record of having been married for 90 years. Probably best to draw a veil over the fact that his widow was 103 when he died...

I feel a bit sorry for Jim Harvey, unlike every other manager since Lee Sinnott.

We often mention due diligence before appointing a manager, considering, for example, Neil Young's record at Stockport, but I feel Harvey didn't perform his own due diligence before taking the job, thinking that Altrincham are obviously too big a club to be bottom of the National League North and this would be a straightforward job,. When it transpired the club's malaise was so much deeper, then,, as Wayno said, he just seemed devoid of ideas and hope.

Altrincham FC First Team / Stalybridge game at Moss Lane on Saturday!
« on: March 23, 2017, 01:30:06 PM »
Stalybridge Celtic's game against Worcester City is now being played at Moss Lane on Saturday. I know their game was called off very early on Tuesday, but Bower Fold must be in a bad way as I type this in the sunshine.

It is neighbourly of us, and I think this must prove to even the most optimistic of happy clappers we are not fighting  a relegation battle against either of these teams.

My condolences, and I am very sorry to hear about your loss.

Indeed, and although Thatcher appeared on the steps after her win in an internal vote in 1990, she was advised by her friends that it was in the party's interest that she should really stand down.  I think there might be a hint there.

An excellent, eloquent post.

It's  a perfectly reasonable article with valid points to create debate and doesn't deserve to be called drivel and so on, although I found its timing very strange. You might even have thought the programme editor had arranged its publication on a day when had a fans' protest and are still, at least in theory, fighting relegation to ensure that somebody else got some flak.

No team has a god-given right to be in a particular division, but I disagree on some of Mike's points.  Since the creation of the Alliance Premier League, we have spent the majority of that time in that league's top division, although we have been one of a number of yo-yo clubs along with the likes of Southport and Tamworth in recent years, as the top division has become more professionalised.  Also, the difference between "earned" and "achieved" performance is really only valid if Altrincham were the only team ever to have achieved promotion through a play-off or to have been reprieved. Since 2005-06, 50% of promoted clubs have come up through the play-offs, and while I don't have the figures to hand to see how well they have performed compared to the champion clubs (it would be interesting to see that), this means that those clubs are also competing at the higher level in some numbers and our performances are judged against them just as against other clubs.

So, we should still be top half National League North at worst, and I don't think we can put this season, where we have been so far adrift, as just a poor season within our usual parameters.

There were a couple of times yesterday where Newby did all the hard work and was determined to score but a better option would have been a pass to an unmarked Reeves. Miller is a bit the same in my opinion. He sometimes tries to beat one player too many.

You may have a point, but that is probably because Newby and Miller both realise they are more capable of scoring than our more experienced strikers, and  can end up doing too much themselves

Another option is to change at Huddersfield,  from where you can get a direct train via Brighouse and Halifax to Bradford.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: No Twitter updates.
« on: March 19, 2017, 06:38:50 PM »
Now I've read the tweets I'm not surprised access was pulled. Whoever was tweeting was clearly tweeting with an anti establishment agenda and intent on using an official communication channel to support the protest and its agenda.

If you'd been on stage the hook would have been coming out to yank you off.

If this was a business (which it is) you'd be looking at a disciplinary. You can't operate in an official or semi official capacity and diss the product.

I may be missing something, but I can't see anything offensive or even "anti-establishment" in the tweets.
There was a walk out, numerous other people supported it, and the game was quiet subsequently. They are all neutral and accurate statements which I have paraphrased rather than repeated word for word.

Genuine question - is the 'problem'  in one of these tweets or elsewhere?

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: The Vocal Minority
« on: March 18, 2017, 07:52:50 PM »
Well, as somebody who stayed, but applauded those who walked out,  it seems that the forum is not too unrepresentative as while it may be a minority who actively walked out, plenty more either supported them, but didn't feel able to go early, for whatever reason, or have stopped coming - shall we call that passively boycotting the club?

Presumably, you think all is fine at the club, as you only feel the need to taunt the supporters?

We need to hear the club's side before reaching any conclusion, but, on a day like today, there is bound to be suspicion of anything unusual, such as the free tickets been given out, and whether they were intended to dilute the protest.

There is nothing controversial about the Twitter posts (unlike a predictive text typo from Stalybridge which called Alan Goodall Goofball!),  so I am left wondering if it's something as petty as trying to make it harder for those who left early to follow what was going on in the game, not that much did.
