Title: Frustrating Grays Game
Post by: casper on February 27, 2010, 05:22:36 PM
Grays Frustrating

Good first half with bags of chances, Denham went very close twice, little and senior having excellent chances too. Grays keeper made some very good saves, though very questionable what Kearney was booked for.
Second half went a bit flat, with Alty changing their approach to attacking. Midfield looked a bit sparse with Densmore being pulled back defensively, and poor defending from a good cross gave Grays the lead. Alty then plied more pressure on Grays, and good play saw senior score at last. It was the right decision to send the Grays player off, but I thought the elbow should have been straight red.

The ref was a bit inconsistent, particularly stopping the game when a Grays player was injured OFF the pitch, and not playing advantage for a foul on Kearney, where senior had a clear advantage.
McAliskey looked a bit cumbersome, and didn’t really get involved much. Clee, Kearney and senior all outstanding, but Smith came off with what looked like a hamstring injury.

A bit disappointing that we didn’t win, especially considering other results.

Thought Grays looked a bit better than I expected.

That keeper was excellent.

On a different day we could have won but 1-1 wasn't the end of the world.

An early goal and they would have collapsed but their keeper had a great game. Anyone any idea why Lawton was thrown back in at the expense of Danylyck who i think has been playing well of late? McAlisky may be a nice bloke but a footballer he is not! The only bonus is that it's unlikely Steve from Sale will ever get to do his Macarena dance because there is more chance of Coburn scoring!

To sign a footballer because he had a name that fits into a chant seems to have backfired.

Always said big mac not good enought for B.S.P .
They should have been down to ten men in the 1st half , after that tackle on Senior .their keeper kept them in the game i thought ,

Was good to see Colin start today after Jimbo's obituary of him.

Showed some good touches as well.

Still going to make the play-offs?

Nope. I posted before our run of 4 games that 12 points was possible - we only got 5. A couple of seasons back that would have been all we expected though.

Not this year, but we have the bones of a decent squad. A couple of signings and a fit Dale Johnson, and next year we COULD just make it - but we'll need a lot of luck with injury and suspension.

Going to finish the season?

Out of the current squad i would lose maybe 2 players, possibly 3.

3 good new signings and we will do well.

Frustrate by Grays continual fouling and the Referees inability to control the game.

How many more times will the refs inept performance be one of the main topics after a game?

The Albino in defence for them should have been given a straight red after his disgraceful tackle on Senior. plus Richard Graham should have been sent off for continual body checking... (Ginger Git)

They also had a guy up front who should be selected for the 2012 Olympics. The way he dives he is a fkn nailed certainty for a diving gold medal.

The Grays goalie was superb in fairness, however I did think that we did enough to win it had we taken the number of chances we created.

Danylyck should have started from the off.  McAlisky did look somewhat out of his depth when he came on. Clee was superb yet again.

A worrying injury to Smith (probably hamstring) he reads the game so well and we didnt look comfortable at the back once he went off injured.

I wish Robbie Williams and McAlisky would show more aggression when challenging for headers

One pleasing sign was to see Dale jogging round the pitch prior to the kick off.

It was great to see Denham and Clee running at defenders at times today.

Clee gets better each game I reckon.

Was it the same Goalkeeper that played in the match at Grays earlier this season - a black lad that comes out of his area a good couple of yards before he releases the ball?

no this was their 32. Glyn Garner making his debut for Grays, previously of Shrewsbury, and according to wikipedia has played for Wales.  He played well, and made some good saves.

A point of order to Mr Laidler's usually precise match report. The Denham rounding the keeper for a defender to clear off the line incident was in the first half, not second.

While for the most part I'd agree one thing that left me with a sour taste in my mouth was the blatant diving of Denham. In the second half, he had two incidents with a defender, and while the first was legit in the second he quite clearly ran into the defender and hurled himself to the ground. Unfortunately the ref believed him. Denham is a great footballer but he seems to dive every time I see him (admittedly not often).

You're right. He needs to cut that out, it annoys the hell out of me. Either learn to play the game fairly or give it up would be my advice.

You'd gladly swap places with us.

End of.

What the intentional block on him that the player was booked for?? the same player who did exactly the same to clee in the first couple minutes??
I think denham goes down easily, but doesnt dive often, unlike their striker who was booked for diving....

If it was the same guy then he was looking a bit pale yesterday .................. ::)

Clee is a joy to watch, proper winger who gets at players and takes them on, ala Ryan Giggs.

Are you joking?  Denham dives in every game he plays.  It's not something I like seeing to be honest, there was one example yesterday where he went to ground when he would have been through if he had stayed on his feet!
